帕里斯

像波浪向碎石的岸上冲，

Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore,

人生也每分钟奔向终点，

So do our minutes hasten to their end,

每一分钟代替了前一分钟，

Each changing place with that which goes before,

连续的努力，睁着往前赶。

In sequent toil all forwards do contend.

婴儿，一旦跃入时光的海绵。

Nativity once in the main of light,

爬到成年，把那荣冠戴起，

Crawls to maturity, wherewith being crowned,

邪恶的蚀影便对他的光荣作战，

Crooked eclipses ’gainst his glory fight,

“时间”竟摧毁他自己的赠予。

And Time that gave, doth now his gift confound.

“时间”真能毁坏青春的美貌，

Time doth transfix the flourish set on youth,

给美人的额上钻刻了沟纹，

And delves the parallels in beauty’s brow,

把自然的杰作中的珍品吞掉，

Feeds on the rarities of nature’s truth,

镰刀过处，一切都荡然无存：

And nothing stands but for his scythe to mow.

但是我的诗篇要垂诸永久，

And yet to times in hope, my verse shall stand

赞美你的优秀，不怕他的毒手。

Praising thy worth, despite his cruel hand.

凯普莱特

亲王找我谈了，蒙太古和我都有责任，

要是再扰乱治安，将同罪论处。

其实，对于我们上了年纪的人，和平相处并不算难。

Montague is bound as well as I,

In penalty alike, and ’tis not hard, I think,

For men so old as we to keep the peace.

帕里斯

哎，你们都是名门望族，

却长期结怨，实在叫人遗憾。

伯父，话说回来，我想向您的女儿朱丽叶求婚，不知意下如何？

Of honourable reckoning are you both,

And pity ’tis you lived at odds so long.

But now, my lord, what say you to my suit?

凯普莱特

我还是重复一遍以前说过的话，

小女朱丽叶今年不满14岁，

这个世界对她来说太陌生，

起码再过两轮春夏秋冬，

她才会熟透，才能嫁人。

But saying o’er what I have said before:

My child is yet a stranger in the world,

She hath not seen the change of fourteen years,

Let two more summers wither in their pride,

Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride.

帕里斯

可是，有比她更小的姑娘，都当上幸福的妈妈了。

Younger than she are happy mothers made.

凯普莱特

女孩子结婚太早，容易被毁掉。

我在这世上已经没什么挂念，

她是我活着唯一的寄托。

And too soon marred are those so early made.

Earth hath swallowed all my hopes but she:

She’s the hopeful lady of my earth.

好吧，善良的帕里斯，你是一位绅士，去求婚，去赢得她的芳心。

我，作为父亲，要看她的心愿，只要她同意，我就不反对。

今晚，我要喜设家宴，

把亲朋好友都请来，来的越多越好。

你也来，帕里斯。

But woo her, gentle Paris, get her heart:

My will to her consent is but a part;

An she agree, within her scope of choice

Lies my consent and fair according voice.

This night I hold an old accustomed feast,

Whereto I have invited many a guest,

Such as I love, and you among the store,

One more, most welcome, makes my number more.

Come, go with me. Go, sirrah, trudge about

Through fair Verona, find those persons out

Whose names are written there and to them say,

My house and welcome on their pleasure stay.

各位行人，大家好！只要你不是蒙太古家的人，就请来我家喝两杯！我代表凯普莱特老爷，邀请大家来赴宴！哎呦，老爷派我去找人，名字全写在名单上，我又不识字，怎么知道写字的人是怎么写名字的。我必须找个认识字的人来帮我。

Find them out whose names are written. Here it is written that the shoemaker should meddle with his yard, and the tailor with his last, the fisher with his pencil, and the painter with his nets. But I am sent to find those persons whose names are here writ, and can never find what names the writing person hath here writ — I must to the learnèd — in good time.
