一、形容词的基本用法

形容词是描述人和事物的性质、特征或状态的词，主要用来修饰名词和代词。形容词在句中可作定语、表语、补语等。

二、形容词的句法功能

1、作定语

前置定语：He is a kind man  他是一个善良的人。

后置定语，它有三种使用方式：修饰复合不定代词：I have something important to tell you我有些重要的事要告诉你；表语形容词：He is the tallest man alive 他是世界上最高的人；形容词短语：This is a book suitable for children 这是一本适合儿童的书。

表语形容词指的是那些只用于连系动词后作表语，而不能用于名词前作定语的形容词。英语中的表语形容词非常有限，归纳起来，主要有以下几类：

A、某些以a-开头的形容词afraid 害怕的alive 活着的alone 单独的ashamed 羞愧的asleep 睡着的awake 醒着的alike 相似的

B、某些表示健康的形容词 fine 健康的，ill 有病的，well 身体健康的

C、某些描述感觉或心情 glad pleased sorry

D、其他表示状态的 certain（有把握的，可靠的） sure fond ready unable

2、作表语

The young man soon become a customer to hard work那个年轻人很快就习惯辛苦的工作了

说到作表语呢，我们常常会说到一个结构叫做系表结构，它表示的是系动词再加上表语，那么系动词是什么呢？它是用来辅助主语的动词。

它本身有词义，但不能单独用作谓语，其后必须跟表语，构成系表结构说明主语的状况、性质、特征等情况。

比如刚才的句子中，become就是系动词，它本身表示到来或进入的含义，accustomed则是形容词，它用来说明主语的状态，因此是表语，become accustomed放在一起就形成了系表结构

3、作补语

The news made her happy这个消息让她很开心。

补语是用来补充说明的，那在这里happy在句尾就是用来补充说明她的状态啦

4、作状语

The soldiers spent three days in the cold weather cold and hungry士兵们在寒冷的天气里度过了三天，又冷又饿。

状语是句子的一个重要修饰成分，是谓语里的另一个附加成分，这里就是在说完句子后附加了cold and hungry 用以修饰前面的句子

三、副词的基本用法

副词是表示行为或状态特征的词，用来修饰动词、形容词、其他副词和句子等，表示时间、地点、程度、方式等。

四、副词的位置

1、程度副词（almost, nearly 等）、频度副词（always, often等）一般放在实义动词之前，情态动词、be动词和助动词之后。 She very nearly died  她差点儿死了，这里very就是程度副词； He usually go to school by bike他通常骑自行车上学。

2、方式副词一般放在实义动词之后： He speaks English well他英语说的很好。

3、修饰整个句子做评论性状语的副词，一般放在句首：Fortunately, he was saved by a kind man幸运的是，他被一个善良的人救了，这里的fortunately就是修饰整个句子表达的内容啦

4、修饰形容词或其他副词，通常放在所修饰词的前面，但有例外，enough作副词时，放在所修饰词之后，比如He is old enough to go to school他到了上学的年龄了。

五、副词的句法功能

1、作状语

修饰动词。He runs fast他跑得很快。

修饰形容词I’m quite happy to wait for you here我非常高兴在此等候您。

修饰副词He plays quite well他表现得相当好。

修饰句子Luckily, I got to school on time很幸运，我按时到校了。

2、作表语一些副词如in, out, om, back, down, up, off, away等可以做表语 The light is still on灯还亮着。

3、作补语Let him out让他出去。

4、作定语Life here is full of joy这里的生活充满了快乐。

一些地点副词和时间副词如here, there, home, abroad, upstairs, above, below, today, tomorrow 等可以作后置定语。
