《夏洛的网》5：双语彩蛋

亲爱的喜马拉雅听众朋友，现在让我们一起来欣赏两段《夏洛的网》中的原文和中文译文。其中，中文译文来自人民文学出版社出版的，康馨翻译的版本。

我选的第一段是全书的开头，这个开头非常精彩，开门见山，一开始就向我们引出全书最重大的问题。我当初就是看了这个开头，被《夏洛的网》吸引住的。

第一段：

一 早餐前

“爸爸拿了斧子上哪儿去了？”芬坐下准备吃早饭时问母亲。

“到猪棚去了，”爱拉伯尔太太回答，“昨晚生了几只猪。”

“生了猪怎么用得着斧子？”芬不懂。她只八岁。

“有一只猪很瘦小，”母亲说。“又瘦又弱，看来长不好；所以你爸爸决定干掉它，”

“干掉它？”芬尖叫起来。“你是说杀掉它？就因为它比别的小？”

爱拉伯尔太太把一小罐奶油放在桌上。“芬，别嚷嚷，”她说。“你爸爸没错，那只猪说不定会死。”

芬推开椅子，跑出门去，草湿漉漉的，泥土散发出春天的气息。芬赶上她父亲时，她的网球鞋都已湿透了。

“爸爸，别杀它！”她哭着说。“这不公平！”

爱拉伯尔先生停住脚步。

“芬，”他和蔼地说，“你得学会控制自己。”

CHAPTER 1

Before Breakfast

"Where's Papagoing with that ax?" said Fern to her mother as they were setting thetable for breakfast.

"Out to thehog house," replied Mrs. Arable. "Some pigs were born lastnight."

"I don't seewhy he needs an ax," continued Fern, who was only eight.

"Well,"said her mother, "one of the pigs is a runt.  It's very small and weak, and it will neveramount to anything. So your father has decided to do away with it."

"Do away withit?" shrieked Fern. "You mean kill it? Just because it's smaller thanthe others?"

Mrs. Arable put apitcher of cream on the table. "Don't yell, Fern!"

she said.  "Your father is right.  The pig would probably die anyway."

Fern pushed achair out of the way and ran outdoors. The grass was wet and the earth smelled of springtime.  Fern's sneakers were sopping by the time shecaught up with her father.

"Please don'tkill it!" she sobbed.  "It'sunfair."

Mr. Arable stoppedwalking.

"Fern,"he said gently, "you will have to learn to control yourself."

第二段：

我选的第二段是全书的末尾。威伯带着夏洛的籽囊回到了他的猪 圈。夏洛死去了，但她的生命在她的后代和威伯的记忆中延续。

一个明朗的清晨，早餐后，威伯站着看他的宝贝籽囊。他脑里并没想什么。他正站在那里时，注意到好像有东西移动。他移步向前，定睛细看，一只细小的蜘蛛从囊中爬了出来，它不比一粒沙或一个针头大多少，它全身灰色，腹下有一条黑纹，腿呈灰赭色，看上去很像夏洛。

威伯一见，不由得浑身颤抖起来。小蜘蛛对他挥着腿。威伯再细看时，又有两只小蜘蛛爬出来，挥着腿。他们在籽囊上不停地爬上爬下，在这新奇世界中探险，然后又有三只出现了，然后八只，十一只……夏洛的孩子们终于出世了。

威伯的心激烈地跳动。他开始沙哑地尖叫，绕着圈跑，把牛龚踢得到处都是，他跳了个后翻身，然后撑住前腿，在夏洛的孩子们前猛然停下。

“哈罗！”孩子们！”他叫着。

CHAPTER 2

One fine sunnymorning, after breakfast, Wilbur stood watching his

precious sac.  He wasn't thinking of anything much. As hestood there, he noticed something move. He stepped closer and stared.  Atiny spider crawled from the sac.  It wasno bigger than a grain of sand, no bigger than the head of a pin.

Its body was greywith a black stripe underneath.  Its legswere grey and tan.  It looked just likeCharlotte.

Wilbur trembledall over when he saw it.  The littlespider waved at him.  Then Wilbur lookedmore closely.  Two more little spiderscrawled out and waved.  They climbedround and round on the sac, exploring their new world.  Then three more little spiders.  Then eight. Then ten. Charlotte's childrenwere here at last.

Wilbur's heartpounded.  He began to squeal.  Then he raced in circles, kicking manure intothe air.  Then he turned a backflip.  Then he planted his front feet andcame to a stop in front of Charlotte's children.

"Hello,there!" he said.
