「Anyway, this story is about a funny thing that happened to Mr Strong one day.」

「言归正传，这个故事是关于某一天，发生在强壮先生身上的一件趣事。」

「That morning he was having breakfast. And for breakfast, he was having...eggs!」

「那天早上，强壮先生正在吃早饭。他先吃的是……鸡蛋！」

「Followed by eggs. And to finish, he was having - guess what? That's right. Eggs!」

「接着吃的还是鸡蛋。最后，他吃的是……你猜是什么？没错，还是鸡蛋！」

「That was Mr Strong's normal breakfast.」

「这就是强壮先生的早餐，天天如此。」

So he's in his kitchen, so we can see the inside of his house, but we haven't seen the outside of his house.

他在自己的厨房里，所以我们现在知道他的房子内部长什么样了，但我们还没不知道房子的外部是怎样的。

How many eggs can you see? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and if you look very carefully, I think you can just see the edge of number nine.

你能看到一共有多少个鸡蛋吗？一、二、三、四、五、六、七、八，如果你仔细看，你或许还能（在绘本中）看到第九颗鸡蛋的边缘。

And what does the clock say? It's five minutes past eight o'clock in the morning. In England at the moment, at eight o'clock at night, it would be sunny like this. Doesn't get dark till very late in England, about ten o'clock.

现在是几点呢？是早上的八点零五分。在此时此刻的英国，晚上八点的时候依旧会有这样阳光灿烂，直到很晚才会天黑，大约十点钟才会暗下来。

But I think this is in the morning because he's having his breakfast. I wonder what you had for breakfast today, did you have this many eggs? I doubt it.

但我认为强壮先生那里现在是早上，因为他正在吃早餐。我想知道你今天吃了什么早餐，你有吃这么多的鸡蛋吗？我猜没有。

「After his eggy breakfast Mr Strong cleaned his teeth.」

「吃完这顿全蛋早餐后，强壮先生刷牙去了。」

「And as usual, he squeezed all the toothpaste out of the tube. And, as usual, he cleaned his teeth so hardhe broke his toothbrush.」

「一如往常的，他把牙膏管里的牙膏一下子都挤了出来。又一如往常的，他使劲地刷着牙，以至于把牙刷给弄断了。」

「Mr Strong gets through a lot of toothpaste and toothbrushes!」

「强壮先生为此用掉了许多管牙膏和牙刷！」

Oh dear. He squeezed it all because he's so strong. And he's brushed his teeth too hard, and look at the toothbrush, it snapped in two.

哦，天哪。他把整管牙膏都挤掉了，因为他实在是太强壮了。他刷牙也十分用力，看看那支牙刷，它断成了两截。

「After that he decided to take a walk.」

「随后，他决定出门散步。」

「He put on his hat and opened the front door of his house. Crash! 」

「他戴上帽子，打开房门。嘭！」

「“What a beautiful day,” he thought to himselfand, stepping outside the house, he shut his front door. Bang!」

「“多么好的天气呀！”他心想着，然后走出房子，关上了门。嗙！」

「The door fell off its hinges. Mr Strong gets through a lot of front doors!」

「门从铰链上掉了下来。强壮先生为此换了很多扇门！」

So we can see his house at last. The door has gone crash and then it's gone bang and it's fallen off its hinges.These are hinges, they are what attaches the door to the door frame. And because he's so strong, he's broken the door. Oh dear.

所以我们终于可以看到他的房子长什么样了。这扇门先是被“嘭”地一下，然后“嗙”地一声，从铰链上掉了下来。铰链，是将门连接到门框上的东西。因为他太强壮了，他把门弄坏了。哦，天哪。

「Then Mr Strong went for a walk.」

「然后，强壮先生就去散步了。」

「He walked through the woods, but he wasn't looking where he was going, and walk slap bang into a huge tree. Crack!」

「他穿过树林，但是他在走路时没有看路，因此撞到了一棵大树上。咔嚓！」

「The huge tree trunk snapped and the tree thundered to the ground.」

「这棵大树的树干被折断了，大树“轰”地一声倒在了地上。

「“Whoops!” said Mr Strong.」

「“哎哟！”强壮先生叫道。」

If you ran into a tree, we would end up with a nasty bump on our heads, wouldn't we? But not Mr Strong. The tree falls down.

如果你撞上了一棵树，脑袋会被撞得很疼，不是吗？但强壮先生不会。他反倒是把树撞倒了。

「He walked into town. 」

「强壮先生来到小镇上。」

「And again, not looking where he was going, he walked slap bang straight into a bus.」

「再一次的，他在走路上没有看路，从而撞上了一辆巴士。」

Oh no.

哦不。

「Now as you know, if you or I were to walk into a bus, we'd get run over. Wouldn't we? 」

「正如你所知道的，如果我们不小心撞上巴士，巴士会从我们身上碾过去，不是吗？」

「But not Mr Strong! The bus stopped as if it had run into a brick wall. 」

「但是强壮先生不一样！那辆巴士撞到他，就像撞在一堵墙上。

「“Whoops!” said Mr Strong.」

「“哎哟！”强壮先生叫道。」

Oh dear. Look at the bus. Whoops! We say “Whoops!” when we've done something a bit wrong, not bad bad, but just a bit wrong. “Whoops” an accident, we say “Whoops!”

哦，天哪。看看那辆巴士。“哎哟！”当我们做错事时，我们会忍不住“哎哟！”一声。不是什么特别坏的坏事，只是出了点小差错，出了些小事故的时候，我们就会说“哎哟！”

「Eventually, Mr Strong walked through the town and out into the country. 」

「最后，强壮先生穿过小镇，来到了乡村。」

「To a farm. The farmer met him in the road looking very worried.」

「经过一个农场。一位农夫站在路上，看起来非常焦急。」

「“What's the matter?” asked Mr Strong.」

「“出什么事了？”强壮先生问。」

「“It's my cornfield,” replied the farmer.“It's on fire and I can't put it out!”」

「“是我的玉米田，”农夫回答道，“我的玉米田着火了，我无法扑灭它！”」

「Mr Strong looked over the hedge, and sure enough the cornfield was blazing fiercely.」

「强壮先生透过树篱看了看，果然，玉米田里的大火熊熊燃烧着。」

That means it's a very big fire.

意思是这是一场非常大的火灾。

「“Water,” said Mr Strong, “We must get water to put out the fire!”」

「“水，”强壮先生说，“我们需要用水把火扑灭！”」

「“But I don't have enough water to put a whole field out,” cried the worried farmer, “and the nearest water is down at the river, and I don't have a pump!”」

「“但是我没有足够多的水来扑灭它，”这位忧心忡忡的农夫哭喊着，“最近的水源是农场下面的那条河，可是我没有水泵！”」

「“Then we'll have to find something to carry the water,” replied Mr Strong.」

「“我们必须去找能够装水的东西。”强壮先生回答道。」

So a pump pumps the water from the river. But the river is a long way away. He hasn't got enough water in his farm to put out the fire.

“pump（水泵）”可以从河里把水抽出来。但河水在很远的地方。他的农场没有足够的水来扑灭大火。

「“Is that your barn?” he asked the farmer, pointing to a barn in another field.」

「“这是你的谷仓吗？”他指着另一块田地上的谷仓，问农夫。」

「“Yes!I was going to put my corn in it,” said the farmer. “But ...”」

「“是的！我打算把我的玉米都放进去，”农夫回答道，“但是……”」

「“Can I use it?” asked Mr Strong.」

「“我可以用一下它吗？”强壮先生问。」

「“Yes, but...” replied the perplexed farmer.」

「“可以，但是……”农夫感到很困惑。」

So “perplexed” is a very long word, can you see it? It means a bit worried, and a bit puzzled.

“perplexed”是一个很长的词，你能看到吗？它的意思是有点担心，又有点不解。

You're perplexed. We don't see that word very often, it's a good word to try to remember. And you can see Mr Strong, and the farmer, and the barn.

You're perplexed，你感到困惑。我们不经常看到这个词，这是一个不错的词，应该好好记住它。在这幅图画上，你可以看到强壮先生、农夫，还有谷仓。

「Mr Strong walked over to the barn, and then do you know what he did? 」

「强壮先生走到谷仓前，你知道他做了什么吗？」

「That's right! He picked it up. He actually picked up the barn! The farmer couldn't believe his eyes.」

「没错！他把它举了起来。他就这样把谷仓举了起来！农夫简直不敢相信自己的眼睛。」

So if we say you couldn't believe your eyes, means it's so amazing.

当我们说“无法相信自己的眼睛”时，意味着我们眼前的事物令人感到震惊。

「Then Mr Strong carried the barn over his head, down to the river. 」

「强壮先生把谷仓举过头顶，送到了河边。」

「Then he turned the barn upside down. And then he lowered it into the river, so that it filled up with water. 」

「然后，他把谷仓倒了过来。接着，他把谷仓放到了河中，用河水将其灌满。」

「Then, and this shows how strong Mr Strong is, he picked it up and carried it back to the blazing cornfield.」

「最后，这下你知道强壮先生有多强壮了吧，他把它高高举起，扛回到那烈火熊熊的玉米田里。」

「Mr Strong emptied the upside down barn full of water over the flames. 」

「强壮先生把倒置的谷仓中的水全部浇在火焰上。」

「Sizzle. Sizzle. Splutter. Splutter. 」

「嘶嘶……嘶嘶……噼啪……噼啪……」

「One minute, the flames were leaping high into the air. The next minute they'd gone.」

「前一分钟，火苗还在半空中跳跃着。下一分钟，就全部消失了。」

「“However can I thank you?” the farmer asked Mr Strong.」

「“我该怎么感谢你呢？”农夫问强壮先生。」

「“Oh, it was nothing,” remarked Mr Strong modestly.」

「“噢，小事一桩。”强壮先生谦虚地说道。」

If you're modest, you don't show off.

如果你“modest（谦虚的）”，意味着你不会去炫耀。

「“But I must find some way to reward you,” said the farmer.」

「“但我必须表达下我的感谢之情。”农夫说。」

「“Well,” said Mr Strong, “You're a farmer, so you must keep chickens.”」

「“好吧，”强壮先生说，“你是一个农夫，所以你一定养了鸡，对吧。”」

「“Yes, lots,” said the farmer.」

「“是的，养了很多。”农夫回答道。」

「“And chickens lay eggs,” went on Mr Strong, “and I rather like eggs!”」

「“而鸡会下蛋”，强壮先生说，“而我非常喜欢鸡蛋！”」

「“Then you shall have as many eggs as you can carry,” said the farmer, and took Mr Strong over to the farmyard.」

「“那么，请你随便拿吧，能拿多少就拿多少。”农夫说着，把强壮先生带到农场里。」

「Mr Strong said goodbye to the farmer, and thanked him for the eggs, and the farmer thanked him for helping. 」

「强壮先生向农夫道别，并感谢他赠予的鸡蛋，农夫也再次感谢他的帮助。」

「Then Mr Strong, just using one finger, picked up the eggs, and went home.」

「随后，强壮先生伸出一根手指将装满鸡蛋的篮子提了起来，回家了。」

「Mr Strong put the eggs carefully down on the kitchen table, and went to close the kitchen door. Crash! 」

「强壮先生把鸡蛋小心翼翼地放在厨房的桌子上，然后去关厨房的门。哗啦！」

「The door fell off its hinges.」

「厨房的门从铰链上掉了下来。

「“Whoops!” said Mr Strong, and sat down. Crunch! 」

「“哎哟！”强壮先生说着，然后坐了下来。嘎吱！」

「The chair fell to bits.」

「椅子被坐的散架了。

「“Whoops!” said Mr Strong, and started cooking his lunch. And for lunch he was starting with eggs.」

「“哎哟！”强壮先生说着，开始做他的午餐。」

「Followed by an egg or two.And then eggs. And then for his pudding he was having...」

「他先吃了一些鸡蛋。然后还是鸡蛋。仍然是鸡蛋。最后，为了搭配他的布丁，他……」

Well, can you guess? If you can, there's no need for me to turn this page over to find out what he was having...
