When faced with a big challenge where potential failure seems to lurk at every corner, maybe you’ve heard this advice before: “Be more confident.” And most likely, this is what you think when you hear it: “If only were that simple.”

当面对一个巨大的挑战时,潜在的失败似乎潜伏在每个角落,也许你以前听过这条建议:要更自信。最有可能的是,当你听到这个词的时候,你会这样想要是真有那么简单就好了。

 

But what is confidence? Take the belief that you are valuable, worthwhile, and capable, also known as self-esteem, add in the optimism that comes when you are certain of your abilities, and then empowered by these, act courageously to face a challenge head-on. This is confidence. It turns thoughts into action.

但什么是信心相信自己是有价值的,重要的,有能力的,或者是有自尊,加上当你确定自己的能力时产生的乐观情绪,然后被这些乐观情绪所激励,勇敢地面对正面的挑战。这是信心。它把想法变成行动。

 

So where does confidence even come from? There are several factors that impact confidence.

那么,信心到底从何而来呢?影响信心的因素有几个。

 

One: what you’re born with, such as your genes, which will impact things like the balance of neurochemicals in your brain.

与生俱来的,比如基因,它会影响大脑中神经化学物质的平衡。

 

Two: how you’re treated. This includes the social pressures of your environment.

别人如何对待你。这包括你所处环境的社会压力。

 

Three: the part you have control over, the choices you make, the risks you take, and how you think about and respond to challenges and setbacks.

你可以控制的部分,你所做的选择,你承担的风险,以及你如何看待和应对挑战和挫折。

 

It isn’t possible to completely untangle these three factors, but the personal choices we make certainly  play a major role in confidence development. So, by keeping in mind a few practical tips, we do actually have the power to cultivate our own confidence.

要完全理清这三个因素是不可能的,但是我们所做的个人选择在自信心的培养中确实扮演着重要的角色。所以,通过记住一些实用的技巧,我们确实有能力培养自己的自信。

 

Tip 1: a quick fix. There are a few tricks that can give you an immediate confidence boost in short term. Picture your success when you’re beginning a difficult task, something as simple as listening to music with deep bass; it can promote feelings of power. You can even strike a powerful pose or give yourself a pep talk.

技巧1快速修复。有一些技巧可以在短期内立即提升你的信心。当你开始一项困难的任务时,简单的听点低音音乐,想象一下你成功的情景它能增强人的权力感。你甚至可以摆一个强有力的姿势或者给自己打气。
