当图利恩家再为他们到英国去的旅行做准备时，埃及街上的那所房子里一片忙乱的景象。爱德华有一个小小的皮箱，阿比林正为他打点着装入他最精美的衣服和他的几顶最好的帽子,三双鞋等等，这样他在伦敦就可以打扮得漂漂亮亮的。她把每套衣服装进皮箱前，都要先把它向他展示一番。

THE HOUSE ON EGYPT STREET became frantic  with activity as the Tulanefamily prepared for their voyage  to England. Edward possessed asmall trunk and Abilene packed it forhim, filling it with his finest suits and several of his best hats and threepairs of shoes, all so that he might cut a fine figure in London. Before sheplaced each outfit in the trunk, she displayed it to him.

“你喜欢这件衬衫配这件衣服吗?”她问他。

或者说:“你想戴上你的黑色的礼帽吗?你戴上它看上去很漂亮。我们要把它装起来吗？”

轮船缓缓驶离了码头。佩勒格里娜朝阿比林挥着手。

“再见，小姐，”她大声说道，“再见。”

"Do you like this shirt with this suit?" sheasked him. Or, "Would you like to wear your black derby ? You look very handsome in it. Shall we pack it?"

And then, finally, on a bright Saturday morning in May,Edward and Abilene and Mr. and Mrs. Tulane were all onboard the ship, standingat the railing. Pellegrina was at the dock. On her head, she wore (wear 过去式）a floppy hat strung around with flowers. She staredstraight at Edward. Her dark eyes glowed.

"Goodbye," Abilene shouted to her grandmother."I love you."

The ship pulled away from the dock. Pellegrina waved toAbilene.

"Goodbye, lady," she called, "goodbye.
