My forehead barely covered by my hair.
妾发初覆额，
Outdoors I plucked and played with flowers fair。
折花门前剧。
On hobby horse he came upon the scene；
郎骑竹马来，
Around the well we played with mumes still green.
绕床弄青梅。
We lived close neighbors on Riverside Lane.
同居长干里，
Carefree and innocent, we children twain.
两小无嫌猜。
At fourteen years old I became his bride;
十四为君妇，
I often turned my bashful face aside.
羞颜未尝开。
Hanging my head,I'd look on the dark wall;
低头向暗壁，
I would not answer his call upon call.
千唤不一回。
I was fifteen when I composed my brows;
十五始展眉，
To mix my dust with his were my dear vows.
愿同尘与灰。
Rather than break faith, he declared he'd die.
常存抱柱信，
Who knew I'd live alone in tower high?
岂上望夫台。
I was sixteen when he went far away.
十六君远行，
Passing Three Gorges studded with rocks grey.
瞿塘滟滪堆。
Where ships were wrecked when spring flood ran high,
五月不可触，
Where gibbons’ wails seemed coming from the sky.
猿声天上哀。
Green moss now overgrows before our door;
猿声天上哀。
His footprints, hidden, can be seen no more.
一一生绿苔。
Moss can't be swept away, so thick it grows,
苔深不能扫，
And leaves fall early when the west wind blows.
落叶秋风早。
In yellow autumn butterflies would pass,
八月蝴蝶来，
Two by two in west garden over the grass.
双飞西园草。
The sight would break my heart and I'm afraid,
感此伤妾心，
Sitting alone, my rosy cheeks would fade.
坐愁红颜老。
O when are you to leave the western land?
早晚下三巴，
Do not forget to tell me beforehand!
预将书报家。
I'll walk to meet you and would not call it far.
相迎不道远，
Even to go to Long Wind Beach where you are.
直至长风沙。
