大雅·生民之什·公刘

笃公刘，匪居匪康。乃埸乃疆，乃积乃仓;乃裹糇粮，于橐于囊。思辑用光，弓矢斯张;干戈戚扬，爰方启行。
笃公刘，于胥斯原。既庶既繁，既顺乃宣，而无永叹。陟则在巘，复降在原。何以舟之?维玉及瑶，鞞琫容刀。
笃公刘，逝彼百泉，瞻彼溥原，乃陟南冈，乃觏于京。京师之野，于时处处，于时庐旅，于时言言，于时语语。
笃公刘，于京斯依。跄跄济济，俾筵俾几。既登乃依，乃造其曹。执豕于牢，酌之用匏。食之饮之，君之宗之。
笃公刘，既溥既长。既景乃冈，相其阴阳，观其流泉。其军三单，度其隰原。彻田为粮，度其夕阳。豳居允荒。
笃公刘，于豳斯馆。涉渭为乱，取厉取锻，止基乃理。爰众爰有，夹其皇涧。溯其过涧。止旅乃密，芮鞫之即。

Duke Liu*

Duke Liu was blessed
He took nor ease nor rest.
He divided the fields
And stored in barns the yields.
In bags and sacks he tied
Up grain and meat when dried.
He led people in rows，
With arrows and drawn bows.
With axes，shields and spears，
They marched on new frontiers.

Duke Liu would fain
Survey a fertile plain
For his people to stay.
On that victorious day
No one would sigh nor rest.
He came up mountain-crest
And descended again.
We saw his girdle then
Adorned with gems and jade，
His precious sword displayed.

Duke Liu crossed the mountains
And saw a hundred fountains.
He surveyed the plain wide
By the southern hillside.
He found a new capital
Wide for his people all.
Some thought it good for the throng；
Others would not dwell there for long.
There was discussion free
They talked in high glee.

Duke Liu was blessed；
At capital he took rest，
Put stools on mats he spread
For officers he led.
They leant on stools and sat
On the ornamented mat.
A penned pig was killed；
Their gourds with wine were filled.
They were well drunk and fed；
All hailed him as State head.

Duke Liu would fain
Measure the hill and plain
Broad and long；he surveyed
Streams and springs，light and shade；
His three armies were placed
By the hillside terraced
He measured plains anew
And fixed the revenue.
Fields were tilled in the west；
The land of Bin was blessed.

Duke Liu who wore the crown
At Bin had settled down.
He crossed the River Wei
To gather stones by day.
All boundaries defined，
People worked with one mind
On the Huang Riverside
Towards Guo River wide.
The people dense would stay
On the shore of the Ney.
