[00:00:03.40]Chapter Seven
[00:00:05.10]Help from Kaa
[00:00:12.70]"Mowgli is probably okay, Baloo," Bagheera said.
[00:00:17.40]"He's smart and you've taught him well."
[00:00:20.40]Bagheera licked a paw thoughtfully.
[00:00:23.50]"But we do need a plan to get him back."
[00:00:27.50]"Well, that's a problem," Baloo said.
[00:00:31.90]"Because those monkeys aren't scared of either one of us.
[00:00:36.90]Hey!" He sat up with a jerk.
[00:00:40.30]"The monkeys are afraid of Kaa.
[00:00:43.20]Let's go talk to him!"
[00:00:45.20]"I don't really like talking to the python.
[00:00:49.60]I'm not sure he's our friend.
[00:00:52.00]And ..." Bagheera shuddered.
[00:00:55.80]"He has spooky eyes."
[00:00:58.20]"Come on, Bagheera. Kaa is very cunning.
[00:01:02.80]Let's go see if he can help us."
[00:01:05.40]Bagheera sighed. "Fine."
[00:01:09.60]Kaa lay on a warm rock in the afternoon sun.
[00:01:15.50]His long body was twisted into coils and curves.
[00:01:19.90]He was admiring his new brown and yellow skin.
[00:01:25.10]"Be careful, Bagheera," Baloo whispered as they approached.
[00:01:31.30]"Kaa is always a little blind after he has changed his skin.
[00:01:37.10]This makes him quick to strike."
[00:01:39.60]Kaa was not a poisonous snake,
[00:01:43.90]but he was still very dangerous.
[00:01:47.40]He could coil tightly around someone in a deadly squeeze.
[00:01:52.60]"Good day, Kaa!" Baloo called.
[00:01:56.60]"Oh, Baloo, what are you doing here?"
[00:02:05.60]"We came to ask for your help," the bear replied.
[00:02:10.60]"We need to find the monkeys.
[00:02:13.60]It's a bit of an emergency."
[00:02:15.60]"Sss." Kaa let out a lazy hiss.
[00:02:20.70]"I'm tired and full.
[00:02:24.00]I'm in no mood to chase monkeys right now."
[00:02:28.30]Baloo flashed a look at Bagheera.
[00:02:31.60]What if Kaa wouldn't help them?
[00:02:34.00]"Um, Kaa .. ." Bagheera swallowed.
[00:02:39.50]"Did you know that the monkeys call you a footless yellow earthworm?"
[00:02:45.20]Kaa's eyes flashed with anger.
[00:02:49.10]"They call me an earthworm?"
[00:02:52.40]"Something like that," Bagheera replied.
[00:02:55.60]"And sometimes they make fun of you," Baloo chimed in.
[00:03:01.00]"They say you have no teeth.
[00:03:03.90]And you're afraid of goats' horns."
[00:03:07.40]"What?"
[00:03:10.30]Kaa coiled up tightly.
[00:03:12.90]The big swallowing muscles on his throat rippled and bulged.
[00:03:18.30]"Why are you looking for the monkeys?"
[00:03:21.80]"Well, as you know, I am the man cub's teacher," Baloo began.
[00:03:27.40]"He usually listens to me, but once, he—"
[00:03:31.50]Bagheera was getting impatient.
[00:03:33.80]They didn't have time for long stories.
[00:03:38.10]"The trouble is this, Kaa," he said, jumping in.
[00:03:42.10]"Those silly nut-stealers have stolen away the man cub."
[00:03:46.10]"He's a wonderful man cub," Baloo said.
[00:03:50.30]"Mowgli is the smartest and boldest of all the man cubs in the world.
[00:03:55.80]I — we — love him, Kaa."
[00:04:00.50]"Ssss!" Kaa wove his head back and forth.
[00:04:05.60]"The man cub belongs with you —
[00:04:08.70]not those monkeys. You are his family."
[00:04:13.10]"That's why we're here," Bagheera said.
[00:04:15.80]"The monkeys are afraid of only one animal in the jungle — you."
[00:04:21.20]"So we're hoping you'll help us find them," Baloo added.
[00:04:25.90]"Please."
[00:04:28.10]"Those horrible monkeys chatter constantly," Kaa muttered.
[00:04:34.40]"And they are foolish and lazy."
[00:04:37.80]He swung toward Bagheera.
[00:04:40.30]"What do the monkeys call me — a yellow fish?"
[00:04:45.10]Bagheera lowered his head.
[00:04:47.50]"A yellow earthworm. And other terrible names."
[00:04:52.10]"I'm going to remind them to speak well of me!"
[00:04:57.50]Kaa snapped. "Where did they go?"
[00:05:01.70]"We thought you might know, Kaa," Baloo said.
[00:05:06.20]"I do know they moved to a different part of the jungle today."
[00:05:11.10]Kaa hissed. "I heard them laughing among the treetops earlier. But I—"
[00:05:18.80]"Up! Up!" A sharp cry came from above.
[00:05:22.90]Baloo looked up.
[00:05:25.60]Rann was flying across the sky.
[00:05:28.70]"I have a message from Mowgli!" the hawk cried.
[00:05:32.90]"The monkeys have carried him deep into the jungle.
[00:05:36.30]He is now beyond the river—in Monkey City!"
