[00:00:09.90]It was a very warm evening in the jungle. 
[00:00:15.30]The moon shone brightly into the mouth of the wolves' cave. 
[00:00:20.10]Father Wolf woke up from his day's rest and yawned. 
[00:00:27.30]Mother Wolf lay nearby. 
[00:00:30.80]She kept her nose on their four tumbling, squealing cubs.
[00:00:35.70]Father Wolf stretched. 
[00:00:39.90]"It's time to hunt again, Mother."
[00:00:43.30]Just then a shadow with a bushy tail appeared at the entrance of the cave. 
[00:00:49.20]Father Wolf frowned. 
[00:00:51.50]It was Tabaqui, the jackal. 
[00:00:54.50]The wolves disliked Tabaqui because he was always looking for food. 
[00:00:59.40]They were afraid of him too, because he was cunning and had a bad temper. 
[00:01:05.40]Sometimes he ran madly through the forest, 
[00:01:09.90]biting everything in his way. 
[00:01:12.50]When Tabaqui acted like that, 
[00:01:16.20]even the fierce tiger, Shere Khan, stayed away from him.
[00:01:21.40]"I'm hungry," Tabaqui announced.
[00:01:25.70]"Come inside and look around, Tabaqui," 
[00:01:30.00]Father Wolf said with a sigh. 
[00:01:32.40]"But I promise you. There is no food here."
[00:01:36.40]"I might find something," Tabaqui replied. 
[00:01:40.70]He slunk toward the back of the cave and sniffed around. 
[00:01:46.30]Soon he found an old bone with a scrap of meat.
[00:01:58.50]"Thanks for the good meal," he said, 
[00:02:01.10]licking his lips. 
[00:02:03.00]He stared at the tiny wolf cubs. 
[00:02:06.40]"I must say, your children are beautiful."
[00:02:10.30]Mother Wolf moved closer to her cubs. 
[00:02:14.40]She and Father exchanged nervous glances.
[00:02:19.10]"Oh, by the way," Tabaqui went on, 
[00:02:23.30]"Shere Khan has found some new hunting grounds. 
[00:02:26.80]He told me he will be hunting here for a while."
[00:02:30.90]"Here?" Mother Wolf said in surprise.
[00:02:35.00]"But he has no right to hunt here!" 
[00:02:38.00]Father Wolf exclaimed. 
[00:02:39.70]"Shere Khan must stay near the river. 
[00:02:43.00]That's the law of the jungle!"
[00:02:45.40]Tabaqui laughed. 
[00:02:48.40]"Shall I tell him about your concern?"
[00:02:52.80]"Out!" Father Wolf snapped at the jackal. 
[00:02:56.90]"Go hunt with your master, Tabaqui.  You've bothered us enough for one night."
[00:03:04.50]"I will go," Tabaqui said quietly. 
[00:03:10.50]"But remember my warning about Shere Khan's new hunting place. 
[00:03:15.20]You can hear him right now, in fact. 
[00:03:17.50]He's below, hunting among the bushes."
[00:03:21.40]After Tabaqui was gone, 
[00:03:25.40]Father Wolf stepped out of the cave. 
[00:03:29.70]Below in the valley, 
[00:03:33.00]he could indeed hear the low snarls of a tiger.
[00:03:38.00]Mother Wolf came out and stood beside him. 
[00:03:43.30]"It sounds like Shere Khan is not hunting animals tonight. 
[00:03:47.90]I think he is hunting humans."
[00:03:50.60]Father Wolf flashed his white teeth. 
[00:03:54.30]"There are plenty of beetles and frogs in the jungle. 
[00:03:58.20]Why must that tiger hunt humans?"
[00:04:00.80]Mother Wolf grunted. 
[00:04:04.00]An important law ruled the jungle. 
[00:04:08.90]Animals were not supposed to hunt humans.
[00:04:13.20]The tiger's snarls grew louder, 
[00:04:16.20]and then there was a howl. 
[00:04:19.10]The wolves could hear Shere Khan tumbling about in the bushes. 
[00:04:23.50]He was howling in pain.
[00:04:26.50]"That foolish tiger probably jumped at a human's campfire. 
[00:04:31.10]It sounds like he burned his feet," Father Wolf said.
[00:04:34.90]Mother Wolf twitched one ear, listening carefully. 
[00:04:39.00]"Something is coming uphill!"
[00:04:42.20]The nearby bushes rustled. 
[00:04:45.30]Father Wolf dropped low, ready to pounce. 
[00:04:48.80]But then Mother Wolf let out a gasp.
[00:04:54.30]"It's a man cub!"
[00:04:56.00]A very young boy stood in front of the wolves. 
[00:05:01.10]The tiny human blinked as he stared into Father Wolf's face.
[00:05:08.20]"Father!" Mother Wolf whispered. 
[00:05:11.40]"Quick! Bring that man cub into our cave!"
[00:05:15.10]Father Wolf stepped forward 
[00:05:17.80]and closed his jaws very gently on the child's neck. 
[00:05:22.60]Then he carried the boy into the cave, 
[00:05:27.50]dropping him near his own small cubs.
