Now, the migration of people to english speaking countries adds richness and diversity of food and culture, but it poses problems when trying to master a new language and sound like a native speaker.

现在,人们向英语国家的移民,增加了食物和文化的丰富性和多样性,但在试图掌握一门新语言和听起来像母语人士时,却带来了问题。

In the episode accentuate the positive. I talked about accents, which give our speech a distinctive sound and delivery. Some people may think their accent is too heavy, and seek accent reduction experts to smooth away the edges. But as I pointed out, then accents can actually enhance communication as long as what they say can be understood, especially when the majority are english http://speakers.In this episode, I want to develop an area I have already covered briefly putting the stress on words, which had the most meaning. Rather than go into the rules of grammar. The easiest way to put this into practice is to read aloud anything that will help you achieve a more meaningful way of speaking Naturally.

Justa few minutes or so every day will establish and maintain a good habit forimproving your vocal delivery. Select any material you want. You don't evenhave to understand the exact meaning. But any article from a printed paper orcopied and pasted from the web will do, because I want you to underline thewords that will enhance the meaning of the content. It's a simple exercise, butvery effective and electronic li. It's easy to check the correct pronunciationif you're not sure of certain words. So let's not make this complicated. Allyou need to do is underline the big words, not the joining words like the atthat, which in or on, for example, those small guys are just there to join thebig words, the descriptive words that are classified as nouns, verbs, adjectives and so on.

So let's get going and get you into a more meaningful way of speaking naturally. If you can do this by underlining the text and reading it aloud, what might start out as a mechanical method will become more familiar and you'll besurprised at how it will transfer to the way you speak when you're not reading. But having a general conversation and will certainly benefit any speech orpresentation. You may have to give of I don't want to focus on the grammar use,but paramount among the words which need emphasis of verbs there and all our patternsof speech.

所以,让我们开始吧,让你以一种更有意义的方式自然地说话。如果你能通过划下划线和大声朗读来做到这一点,那么你就会更熟悉一开始使用的机械方法,你会惊讶地发现,当你不读书的时候,它是如何转变成你说话的方式的。但有一个一般性的谈话,肯定会受益于任何演讲或演示。你们可能要注意,我不想把重点放在语法的使用上,但最重要的是那些需要强调动词的单词和我们所有的说话方式

For example, I like to travel by train. Iarrived on time. I chase the dog around a tree. I lit the candles when thepower was cut. My shirt was ruined in the washing machine.

Get the idea.

Today I recorded some short stories for achinese language learning school, and i'm going to read two of them in thisepisode. They're designed to be heard in segments and for the purpose of thispod cast episode are read each segment without any stress of the words. Andthen i'll read it again, stressing the words which have most meaning.

例如,我喜欢乘火车旅行。我准时到了。我绕着树追狗。停电时我点了蜡烛。我的衬衫在洗衣机里洗坏了。

今天我为一所中国语言学习学校录制了一些短篇故事,我将在这一集中读其中的两个。他们被设计成一段一段地听,为了这个播客的目的,每一段都要读,没有任何单词的重音。然后我再读一遍,强调最有意义的单词。

You'llhear the difference. And that's something you can do on a regular basis.Believe me, your speaking skills will improve rapidly, especially if you'restruggling with speaking english. But native english speakers will also benefitbecause we may usually speak in a monotone without the ups and downs in ourintonation, and had a tendency to fall flat on the ears of those we speak with. The first story has two characters. One is a woman called xiao li, and theother is a man whose name is james xiao li has been living in beijing for fiveyears. She has a good job, a nice apartment, and a new car.

你会听到不同之处。这是你可以经常做的事情。相信我,你的口语能力将会迅速提高,尤其是当你在说英语方面遇到困难的时候。但母语为英语的人也会受益,因为我们说话时语调通常是单调的,没有起伏,而且我们说话的人很容易听不懂。第一个故事有两个人物。一个是叫小李的女人,另一个是叫詹姆斯的男人,小李已经在北京住了五年了。她有一份好工作,一套漂亮的公寓,还有一辆新车

She also has a boyfriend who loves her verymuch. She doesn't know what to do. Charlie has been living in beijing for fiveyears. She has a good job, a nice apartment, and a new car.

Today She talked with her boss, james, abouthis situation. James said, I understand your situation. Your mother needs you now,and you want to be with her.

她也有一个非常爱她的男朋友。她不知道该怎么办。查理已经在北京住了五年了。她有一份好工作,一套漂亮的公寓,还有一辆新车。今天。她和老板詹姆斯谈了他的情况。詹姆斯说,我理解你的处境。你妈妈现在需要你,你想和她在一起。

Jamessaid, I understand your situation. Your mother needs you now and you want to bewith her as your boss. I think you have a lot of potential. You have had manybig projects in recent years that you have done very well. The management teamand our clients are all very satisfied with your work. So I really hope thatyou will stay with us as your boss.

詹姆斯说,我理解你的处境。你妈妈现在需要你,你想和她一起。作为你的老板,我认为你很有潜力。近年来,你做了很多大项目,而且都做得很好。管理团队和我们的客户都对你的工作非常满意。所以作为老板,我真的希望你能留下来。

So I really hope that you will stay withus. Shelley said. Thank you, james. My friends all say that I am very lucky tobe able to be working in such a famous company and have a nice boss. My job isvery challenging and I really like it, but my mother needs me.

所以我真的希望你能和我们在一起。雪莱说。谢谢你,詹姆斯。我的朋友们都说我很幸运能在这么有名的公司工作,有这么好的老板。我的工作很有挑战性,我很喜欢,但是我妈妈需要我。

James asked, why doesn't your mother cometo bei jing surely replied. I have already suggested this to her many times, but my mom always says that guangzhou is her hometown. She has been livingthere for more than fifty years. Her parents and friends all live in guangzhou. She likes her life in guangzhou and doesn't want to come to beijing. Besides,my mom teaches chinese in a middle school. She likes her job.

詹姆斯问:“你妈妈为什么不来北京?”我已经向她提过很多次了,但是我妈妈总是说广州是她的家乡。她在那儿已经住了五十多年了。她的父母和朋友都住在广州。她喜欢广州的生活,不想来北京。此外,我妈妈在一所中学教中文。她喜欢她的工作。

James said what hobbies does your mom have?Shelley said my mom enjoys swimming. During her holidays. She often goes to theaquatic training centre to teach children how to swim. James said, oh, did youknow there was a new gym close to our company? They might need swimmingcoaches.

詹姆斯说你妈妈有什么爱好?雪莉说我妈妈喜欢游泳。在她的假期。她经常去水上训练中心教孩子们游泳。詹姆斯说,哦,你知道我们公司附近有一家新健身房吗?他们可能需要游泳教练。

Shelley said that is a good idea. I willcheck with the gym and talk with my mom to see what she thinks about this.Shelley said, james, thanks very much. You always have helped me in both myprofessional and personal life. James said, you are a good friend andcolleague. Whenever you have difficulties, I will always help you. Shelleysaid, thank you. That is very nice of you.

雪莉说那是个好主意。我会去健身房和我妈妈谈谈,看看她是怎么想的。谢莉说:詹姆斯,非常感谢。在我的职业生涯和个人生活中,你总是给予我帮助。詹姆斯说,你是我的好朋友和好同事。无论何时你有困难,我都会帮助你。谢莉说:谢谢。你真是太好了。

So you get the idea now with the the way astory is read without any expression. And when you put some intonation into itand make it sound more interesting, it just takes on a whole new one.

所以你现在明白了,故事是不带任何表情的。当你加入一些语调,让它听起来更有趣,它就会有一个全新的生命。

So we do have one more here, and it'scalled david's social life in beijing. I am david and I have been working inbeijing for almost six years. I have now known lily for three months andI am liking her more and more. I invited lily for dinner last saturday. On thatday, I was a bit nervous. I was wondering what to wear and what to say to lily.At seven p m I arrived at the restaurant. I saw lily, but she was with a talland very handsome young man. Lily said, hi, david, let me introduce to you my olderbrother mike. He works in the u s and is here on a business trip this week. Onthat day, I was a bit nervous. I was wondering what to wear and what to say tolily.

我现在已经认识莉莉三个月了,我越来越喜欢她了。上星期六我邀请了莉莉吃饭。那天,我有点紧张。我在想该穿什么,该跟莉莉说什么。晚上7点我到了餐馆。我看见了莉莉,但她和一个高大英俊的年轻人在一起。莉莉说:嗨,大卫,让我给你介绍一下我的哥哥迈克。他在美国工作,这周在这里出差。那天,我有点紧张。我在想该穿什么,该跟莉莉说什么。

At seven pm I arrived at the restaurant, Isaw lily, but she was with a tall and very handsome young man. Lily said, hi,david, let me introduce you to my older brother, mike. He works in the u s andas here on a business trip this week. First I thought mike was lily'sboyfriend, but now I feel a lot better. I said, hi mike, I am lily's colleaguedavid. Nice to meet you during the dinner. I talked a lot with lily's brother.I didn't have an opportunity to talk with lily, so I have to find anotheropportunity. When I arrived home I sent lily an sms. Do you have time next weekfor dinner? I would like to have dinner with you. Just the two of us. I amhoping she can become my girlfriend. First I thought mike was lily's boyfriend, but now I feel a lot better.

I said, hi, mike, I am lily's colleague, david. Nice to meet you. During the dinner. I talked a lot with lily's brother.I didn't have an opportunity to talk with lilly, so I have to find another opportunity. When I arrived home, I sent lily n s n s do you have time next weekend? I wouldlike to have dinner with you. Just the two of us. I am hoping she can become mygirlfriend. So no guess for asking you, which version did you think was better?Anyway, here's some more tips about stressing those big descriptive wordsbesides verbs, names, numbers, and so on. The word also can add energy anddynamics to a sentence. When you put intonation and energy into it.

I also do this. I also went there. Theyalso like to go camping. And the final word of any sentence also need stress. Not too much, but it does need stress. For example, the sunset slowly in thewest, it rises in the east rather than, you know, the style that I used in thestory, the sunset slowly in the west. It rises in the east, ha! So start todayand continue with the underlining of the key words, the big words, thedescriptive words, and reading aloud do this everyday. You don't need to spendmore than a few minutes. Uh, as they say, less is more anyway, you'll bestressing for all the right reasons.

我也这样做。我也去了那里。他们也喜欢去露营。任何句子的最后一个词也需要重读。不是太多,但确实需要压力。比如,日落从西边缓缓升起,它从东边升起,而不是我在故事中使用的风格,日落从西边缓缓升起。它从东方升起,哈!所以,从今天开始,继续在关键词下划线,关键词,描述性词语,大声朗读,每天都这样做。你不需要花费超过几分钟的时间。就像他们说的,少即是多,你有足够的理由感到压力
