Welcome back to the Coolest Games, a series where we detail a specific Winter Olympics sport. In today’s episode we’re having a look at Freestyle Skiing【自由式滑雪】.

Freestyle skiing debuted as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Calgary Games, and then it was added to the Winter Olympic program in 1992, and new events have been introduced to the competition format over the years. They include aerials【空中技巧】, moguls【雪上技巧】, ski cross【障碍追逐】, halfpipe【U型场地技巧】, slopestyle【坡面障碍技巧】, and big air【大跳台】.

在1988 年卡尔加里奥运会上，自由式滑雪作为表演项目首次亮相，后于1992年被纳入到冬奥会项目中，并且在接下来的几年中在比赛形式中引入了新的项目。它们包括空中技巧，雪上技巧，障碍追逐，U型场地技巧，坡面障碍技巧，和大跳台。

The aerials events, halfpipe, slope-style and moguls are all 'judged' events, which means the athletes receive a score from a group of judges based on the skill of their tricks and form they display on each of their runs in the competition. In the case of big air, competitors are also scored on the height and distance of their jumps. 

空中技巧，U型场地技巧，坡面障碍技巧和雪上技巧都是"评判"项目，这意味着裁判会根据每次比赛中选手展示的技巧和形式给选手评分。在大跳台项目中，参赛者也会根据跳跃的高度和距离被予以评分。

Ski-cross is different, unlike the other freestyle skiing events, ski-cross is a timed event, so there are no judges …The first athlete to cross the finish line wins!

Skiing has become increasingly popular among young Chinese people, but do you know that skiing is originated from China? The very first skis date back to 8,000 years BC and were found in Altay in Northern Xinjiang. They were made of 2-metre-long pieces of wood and were covered in horsehair. Nowadays, Altay has become an ideal destination for more and more professional skiers.

One of the the rising stars competing at the Beijing Winter Games is Eileen Gu. She competes in all three free ski events: Slopestyle, Half Pipe, and Big Air. 

本届北京冬奥会中有一位令人瞩目的新星，叫做谷爱凌。她参加了所有三项自由式滑雪比赛：坡面障碍技巧，U型场地技巧和大跳台。

Since she announced in 2019 that she would compete for China, Eileen Gu has met with a lot of success. Her first big win was at the Winter Games in New Zealand. She also picked up a pair of gold medals at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne in Big Air and Half Pipe, as well as a bronze in slopestyle.

自从她在2019年宣布将代表中国参赛以来，谷爱凌取得了很大的成功。她第一次在新西兰的冬奥会上大放异彩。在2020年洛桑青年奥运会上，她还获得了大跳台和U型场地技巧的两枚金牌，以及坡面障碍技巧铜牌。

She then went on to win three medals at the X Games in 2021, gold medals for halfpipe and slopestyle, and a bronze medal in Big Air. Eileen is now fully focused on and ready for the Winter Games in Beijing where she hopes to inspire a whole new generation of Chinese skiers.

The Beijing 2022 freestyle skiing events will take place at two venues. The Genting Snow Park, located in the east of Chongli County of Zhangjiakou, will host most of the events, while Shougang Park will host the big air and aerials competitions.

北京2022年自由式滑雪比赛将在云顶雪地公园和首钢公园两个场地举行。位于张家口崇礼县东部的云顶雪地公园将举办大部分活动，而首钢公园将举办大跳台和空中技巧比赛。

For me, the most unique venue of the Beijing 2022 is Shougang. The park was built at a former steel mill, and are set against the backdrop of four industrial cooling towers. The design is derived from the traditional flying Apsaras in Dunhuang frescoes in China. As the world's first permanent venue for Big Air, it will stage the freestyle skiing and snowboard Big Air competitions at the Games. After the Winter Olympics, Big Air Shougang will be used for various sports competitions and training, as well as cultural and civic events.

对我来说，北京2022冬奥会最独特的会场是首钢。该公园的前身是一家钢铁厂，以四座工业冷却塔为背景。该设计源自中国敦煌壁画中传统的飞天神女。作为世界上第一个大跳台的永久场地，本届奥运会上自由式滑雪和单板滑雪大跳台比赛将在此举行。冬奥会结束后，首钢大跳台将作为各种体育比赛和训练，以及文化和市民活动的场地。

There are 13 events in freestyle skiing at Beijing 2022, including two new events: men’s and women’s freestyle skiing Big Air and mixed team freestyle skiing aerials【自由式滑雪空中技巧混合团体赛】.

北京2022冬奥会自由式滑雪项目共有13项，包括两项新项目：男子和女子自由式滑雪大跳台和自由式滑雪空中技巧混合团体赛。

The final runs of Men’s and Women’s Free ski Big Air will be taking place on Feb 8th and 9th, while the mixed team freestyle skiing aerials finals will be held on Feb 10th.

男子和女子自由滑雪大跳台的决赛将于2月8日和9日举行，而自由式滑雪空中技巧混合团体决赛将于2月10日举行。
