这个表达源自另一个idiom：kick the bucket 字面意思“踢桶”，实际意思“to die 去死”，因为以前人们上吊的时候，是踩着水桶的，踢掉桶就意味着要死翘翘了。

那么bucket list字面意思“水桶清单”，就是某人死前的“愿望清单”，直接理解为“人生愿望清单”即可。

字面意思是：在…旁打勾
一般完整表达是tick off ... on your bucket list
