The Lesson of the Bamboo Trees
[00:09.84]One of my fondest memories as a child is going by the river
[00:16.30]and sitting idly on the bank.
[00:17.83]There I would enjoy the peace and quiet,
[00:21.00]watch the water rush downstream
[00:23.61]and listen to the chirps of birds
[00:25.67]and the rustling of leaves in the trees.
[00:27.36]I would also watch the bamboo trees bend under pressure from the wind
[00:33.19]and watch them return gracefully to their original position
[00:37.34]after the wind had died down.
[00:38.88]When I think about the bamboo trees ability to bounce back
[00:44.02]or return to its original position,
[00:46.19]the word resilience comes to mind.
[00:49.50]When used in reference to a person
[00:51.77]this word means the ability to readily recover from shock,
[00:55.73]depression or any other situation
[00:58.68]that stretches the limits of a persons emotions.
[01:01.40]Have you ever felt like you are about to snap?
[01:05.03]Have you ever felt like you are at your breaking point?
[01:08.63]Thankfully, you have survived the experience to live to talk about it.
[01:13.77]During the experience you probably felt a mix of emotions
[01:18.36]that threatened your health.
[01:20.01]You felt emotionally drained,
[01:21.85]mentally exhausted
[01:23.50]and you most likely endured unpleasant physical symptoms.
[01:27.43]Life is a mixture of good times and bad times,
[01:31.50]happy moments and unhappy moments.
[01:34.11]The next time you are experiencing one of those bad times
[01:38.26]or unhappy moments that take you close to your breaking point,
[01:41.98]bend, but dont break.
[01:43.95]Try your best not to let the situation get the best of you.
[01:48.55]A measure of hope will take you through the unpleasant ordeal.
[01:53.14]With hope for a better tomorrow or a better situation,
[01:57.53]things may not be as bad as they seem to be.
[02:00.80]The unpleasant ordeal may be easier to deal with
[02:04.30]if the end result is worth having.
[02:06.94]If the going gets tough and you are at your breaking point,
[02:11.20]show resilience.
[02:12.82]Like the bamboo tree, bend, but dont break!
