Tourism revenue reached 389.06b yuan
国庆假期旅游收入上涨

China saw a total of 515 million domestic tourist trips made during the seven-day National Day holiday, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The figure was 70.1% of trips made during the same period before the COVID-19 pandemic, said the ministry. Tourism revenue reached 389.06 billion yuan, a recovery of 59.9% of the revenue gained in the same period before the pandemic, the ministry said. Travel agencies said they have seen an increase in tour package reservations after their businesses had a hard time during the summer.

Red tourism and tour products focusing on appreciating autumn scenery and family trips are popular. The travel portal Fliggy said in a new report that sales on its platform of tickets for attractions registered a 100% increase in the first three days of the holiday compared with the same period last year. According to online travel agency Qunar, the top 50 theme parks, including Shanghai Disney Resort and Chimelong Tourist Resort in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, saw a 20% average increase in ticket sales.

White paper on biodiversity conservation issued
'中国的生物多样性保护'白皮书发布

The State Council Information Office of the People's Republic of China on Friday released a white paper titled "Biodiversity Conservation in China". China’s land and sea territories are both vast; its complex terrain and diverse climate gave birth to unique ecosystems, abundant species, and rich genetic variety, said the white paper. As one of the most biodiverse countries in the world and one of the first countries to sign and approve the Convention on Biological Diversity, China has always attached great importance to biodiversity conservation and preserves biodiversity with creative and up-to-date measures, achieving substantial progress on a distinctively Chinese path of conservation. 
国务院新闻办公室10月8日发表《中国的生物多样性保护》白皮书。白皮书介绍，中国幅员辽阔，陆海兼备，地貌和气候复杂多样，孕育了丰富而又独特的生态系统、物种和遗传多样性，是世界上生物多样性最丰富的国家之一。作为最早签署和批准《生物多样性公约》的缔约方之一，中国一贯高度重视生物多样性保护，不断推进生物多样性保护与时俱进、创新发展，取得显著成效，走出了一条中国特色生物多样性保护之路。

WHO set to vaccinate 40% of population by end 2021
世卫启动全球新冠疫苗接种战略

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday an initiative to vaccinate 40% of the population of every country against COVID-19 by the end of 2021 and 70% by mid-2022, by prioritizing vaccine delivery to low-income countries, particularly those in Africa. 
世界卫生组织10月7日宣布推出一项全球新冠疫苗接种战略，优先向低收入国家、特别是非洲国家提供疫苗，以实现到2021年年底为所有国家约40%的人口接种新冠疫苗、到2022年中期接种人口比例提升至70%的目标。

According to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, achieving these targets will require at least 11 billion vaccine doses, which is an allocation problem instead of a supply problem. "With global vaccine production now at nearly 1.5 billion doses per month, there is enough supply to achieve our targets, provided they are distributed equitably," he said at a press briefing.
世卫总干事谭德塞在新闻发布会上说，实现全球新冠疫苗接种战略目标将至少需要110亿剂疫苗，但问题不在于疫苗供应，而在于疫苗分配。目前全球疫苗产量接近每月15亿剂，只要公平分配，就有足够的供应来实现这一目标。

6.1-magnitude quake strikes Japan's Tokyo region
日本千叶县发生6.1级地震

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on late Thursday struck Japan's Chiba prefecture, but no tsunami warning has been issued, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The temblor occurred at around 10:41 pm local time, with its epicenter at a latitude of 35.6 degrees north and a longitude of 140.1 degrees east, and at a depth of 80 km. 
据日本气象厅消息，当地时间10月7日22时41分，日本千叶县西北部发生6.1级地震，此次地震未引发海啸。此次地震震中位于北纬35.6度、东经140.1度，震源深度80公里。

The quake logged 5 plus in some parts of Tokyo Prefecture and Saitama Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7. According to utility officials, as of around 11 pm local time, the earthquake had triggered a blackout affecting around 250 households in Tokyo. Some train services including subways operated by Tokyo Metro Co and shinkansen bullet trains had been suspended following the earthquake, railway companies said.
