Mars probe travels 300M km

'天问一号'飞行超3亿千米

China's Tianwen 1 Mars probe had traveled 300 million kilometers as of Tuesday morning, according to the China National Space Administration. The administration said in a statement that the spacecraft was in good condition. By Tuesday morning, the robotic probe had flown 116 days in an Earth-Mars transfer trajectory toward the red planet, about 63.8 million km away from the Earth, it noted. 

国家航天局发布声明称，截至11月17日凌晨，我国的"天问一号"火星探测器飞行里程突破3亿千米，探测器各系统工作正常。截至11月17日，"天问一号"已在地火转移轨道上飞行了116天，距离地球约6380万千米，仍在奔向火星的途中。"

The spacecraft is programmed to reach the Martian gravitational field in February and then begin to prepare for landing, which is expected to take place in May. After the landing, it will release a rover to conduct scientific exploration. Tianwen 1, the country's first independent Mars mission, was launched by a Long March 5 heavy-lift carrier rocket on July 23 at the Wenchang Space Launch Center in South China’s Hainan province, opening the nation's planetary exploration program.

天问一号"计划于2021年2月到达火星引力势场，开始做降落的相关准备，预计2021年5月着陆火星表面。着陆后"天问一号"将释放火星车，开展科研探测工作。7月23日，我国在海南文昌航天发射场，用"长征五号"重型运载火箭成功发射我国首次独立火星探测任务"天问一号"探测器，开启了我国行星探测的序幕。

Hangzhou draws overseas grads

杭州海归薪水涨幅领先

Hangzhou is increasingly becoming a hot spot for Chinese graduates returning from overseas, with an average annual salary of 282,800 yuan, a white paper released recently said. In Hangzhou, salaries for such grads increased nearly 32 percent year-on-year, the highest among all Chinese cities, followed by Beijing, which saw a 30 percent year-on-year rise, according to the 2020 China Overseas Students Development White Paper. 

据白皮书显示，杭州正日益成为最受海归留学生欢迎的城市之一，这一群体在杭州的平均年薪达28.28万元。从重点城市流入的海外留学生的薪资涨幅来看，杭州以平均年薪近32%的涨幅，位列全国第一；其次是北京，为30%。

The white paper was jointly issued by Liepin Overseas and Providence Academy at the 2020 Chinese Overseas Students Conference held in Hangzhou earlier this month. Nearly three-fourths of grads who return from overseas are aged between 25 and 35, and nearly four-fifths have master's degrees or above. Business administration and finance are the two most popular majors among those grads, according to the white paper.

The coronavirus may have been circulating in Italy since September 2019, three months before it first emerged in China, according to a study released Sunday by the National Cancer Institute in Milan. The research showed that 11.6 percent of the 959 healthy volunteers who participated in a lung cancer screening trial between September 2019 to March 2020 had developed COVID-19 antibodies well before February.

意大利米兰市的国家癌症研究所11月15日发布的一项研究显示, 新冠病毒2019年9月可能就已在意大利传播，比中国首次报告该病毒的时间(2019年12月)要早三个月。研究显示，在2019年9月至2020年3月期间参加肺癌筛查试验的959名健康志愿者中，11.6%的人早在2月之前就已经产生新冠病毒抗体

Giovanni Apolone, a co-author of the study, said four cases from the study dated to the first week in October last year, which means those people had been infected in September. The northern region of Lombardy, whose capital is Milan where the pandemic first emerged in February, had previously reported an unusually high number of cases of severe flu and pneumonia in the last quarter of 2019 in a sign that COVID-19 may have circulated earlier than previously thought.

Athletes urged to get vaccine

Olympic "participants" and fans arriving for next year's postponed Tokyo Games will be encouraged to be vaccinated to protect the public, IOC President Thomas Bach said Monday. Bach campaigned across Tokyo on Monday, his first visit to Japan since the Olympics were postponed almost 8 months ago amid the coronavirus pandemic. 

国际奥委会主席巴赫11月16日表示，鼓励东京奥运会的参赛者和观众都接种疫苗，以确保公众的安全。东京奥运会已延至明年举行。11月16日，巴赫在东京参加一系列活动，这是自八个月前新冠病毒大流行导致东京奥运延迟后他首次访问日本。

"In order to protect the Japanese people and out of respect for the Japanese people, the IOC will undertake great effort so that as many people as possible - Olympic participants and visitors will arrive here with a vaccine, if by then a vaccine is available," Bach said after talks with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

A possible vaccine was announced last week by Pfizer Inc, which could greatly help the IOC and local organizers stage the Olympics. The Olympics are scheduled to open on July 23, 2021.
