She met the Count Paris as she was leaving the monastery, and politely promised to become his bride. This was joyful news to the Lord Capulet and his wife. Juliet, who had displeased him by her refusal of the count, was his darling again, now that she promised to be obedient.
The following night, which was the night before the wedding, Juliet drank the portion. When Count Paris came early in the morning with music to awaken his bride, he found a lifeless corpse. Soon the house filled with the sounds of crying and mourning. Lord and Lady Capulet were the most devastated, as they had lost their only child.
Bad news, which always travels faster than good, now brought the horrible story of his Juliet's death to Romeo at Mantua. The news had arrived before the messenger could arrive who was sent from Friar Lawrence to tell him that Juliet was not actually dead. Just moments before, Romeo had been unusually joyful and lighthearted. Romeo had dreamed in the night that he was dead and that his lady came and found him dead, only to breathe life into him with kisses.
