世行:今年中国经济将增7.9%

China's economy is expected to expand by 7.9 percent in 2021, nearly double the global growth rate predicted for the year, the World Bank said in its forecast on Tuesday. 
1月5日，世界银行发布最新一期《2021全球经济展望》报告，报告预计2021年中国经济将增长7.9%，这一增速是全球经济增速的近两倍。

"Growth in China is projected to accelerate to 7.9 percent this year - 1 percentage point above the June forecast - reflecting the release of pent-up demand and a quicker-than-expected resumption of production and exports," the 189-member global lender said in a statement at the release of the 2021 Global Economic Prospects. 
这家拥有189个成员国的金融机构在一份声明中表示，中国的经济增速在2021年将攀升至7.9%，较去年6月的预测值上调了一个百分点，这反映出被压抑的需求释放和生产及出口恢复速度快于预期。

In all, global economy is projected to pick up by 4 percent, assuming an initial COVID-19 vaccine rollout becomes widespread throughout the year.

China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp says it plans to launch more than 40 missions this year, including some for the nation's space station program, according to a report read at the State-owned conglomerate's annual space programs meeting on Monday in Beijing. It said if everything goes according to plan, 2021 will be its busiest year in terms of launch activity. 
中国航天科技集团有限公司1月4日在北京召开2021年度型号工作会。会议指出，2021年中国航天科技集团计划安排40余次宇航发射任务，其中包括载人航天空间站工程。该公司表示，如果一切按计划进行，2021年将是宇航发射任务最多的一年。

CASC sources said all the 40-odd planned missions will be carried out by the conglomerate's Long March series of rockets, and do not include those to be made by the company's newly developed Smart Dragon solid-propellant rockets. That means the number of missions launched by the company this year will be even bigger.

Railway construction in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, which comprises nine provinces and two municipalities in China, has witnessed rapid development in recent years.

Railway track and high-speed track in the area hit 43,700 and 15,400 kilometers respectively by November 2020, an increase of 9,120 and 7,824 km from 2015, official data from the National Development and Reform Commission showed on Tuesday. Highway mileage was also recorded as 63,700 km by November, up 15,500 km over 2015. High-grade waterway mileage of the Yangtze River's main line and branches reached 10,000 km by the end of 2020. Airport projects in Southwest China's Chengdu and Guiyang also accelerated construction.

2021 Grammys postponed

The 2021 Grammys, originally scheduled for Jan 31, have been postponed due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, multiple sources confirm to Rolling Stone. In a statement released Tuesday evening, organizers, citing “thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear,” confirmed they’ll stage the award show on Sunday, March 14.

California as a whole has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases following Thanksgiving and the holiday season, setting a new single-day record of 74,000 new cases on Jan 4, according to The Los Angeles Times.
