The wind has dropped

It stands in silence at the crossing

Railings/'relɪŋ/ that float up in the mist

A small door that opens the night:

Darkness proposes a toast in street lights.

The window lattice/'lætɪs/ in your eyes

Filters out the hazy daylight.

Learn to leave,

As you learnt everything before

As you learnt to be glad and to grieve.

Turn your back and go, girl,

Letting the feeble lamplight slip from your shoulders.

You may want to smile lightly

But the frost netted in your braids

Flows slowly with the night dew.
