Describe a park or garden you like visiting.

Living in England we are spoiled with the number of parks and gardens we can visit.  There are many old manor houses that have beautifully landscaped gardens that you can wander around but today the place I’d like to talk about is a public park close to my home.

It’s called Jesmond Dene and is located to the north of Newcastle’s City Centre.  It’s set in a little valley with the Ouse Burn river flowing through it.  I think there is a lot for everyone at the park regardless of your age or fitness levels.

As you would expect there are some swings and slides and climbing frames for children to play on and even an electric train that looks like Thomas the Tank engine that they can ride on with their parents.

There’s a bowling green for the older people to enjoy a relaxing game or two and a café where everyone can enjoy a cake and coffee after playing.

The thing that really sets Jesmond Dene apart and the biggest reason I enjoy visiting, is the small petting zoo.

They have pigs, sheep, goats and many different types of birds you can go and see and on certain days and times you can also get to hold them, pet them or even feed them.  You have to do this with their keeper so you can’t just feed them anything at any time.

This makes sure the animals are all fit and health and are eating the correct foods.  I think the best time to visit is in mid-April. I really love taking a walk along the river in the mornings during spring.

It’s very relaxing to stroll among all the blossom laden trees before enjoying some time with the animals and finally a delicious slice of cake and a coffee and the quaint little café.

It really is a relaxing and friendly place to spend your free time and that’s what keeps me coming back week after week when the weather is good.  If you’re ever in Newcastle I can recommend spending some time there.
