Through out my life I have had the fortune to travel to many places around the world; from the mountains of Europe to the coast of Mexico and the sprawling metropolises of Tokyo and Beijing.
到现在为止在我的有生之年，我有幸去了世界很多地方，从欧洲的山脉到墨西哥的海岸，再到像东京和北京这样的繁华大都市。

Top of the list when it comes to crowded places though is Beijing, the sheer volume of people there is overwhelming. Everywhere you go are people, lots of people! I used to work in the East of the city in the central business district but I lived in the South West and had to take the metro to and from work, each day, during rush hour.
但是一提到拥挤的地方北京绝对是榜首，在这里到处都是人。我曾经在北京东部的中央商务区工作，但是我住在北京的西南方，每天必须在上下班高峰时段乘坐地铁。

To say that the metro’s are crowded is a massive understatement, it would be like describing the sun as a bit on the hot side.
其实用人潮拥挤来描述北京的地铁其实算是轻描淡写了，就像说太阳有一点点热而已。

During the rush hour you would have to force yourself on to trains to try and get home. Commuters would form mobs with casual labourers and bewildered tourists either side of the train doors. When the doors of the carriage open, even if you couldn’t see a space you would have to turn side on and try to shoehorn yourself in between the already squashed passengers. It was stifling in summer being so close to so may people, it felt like you were in a sauna.
在高峰时段，你将不得不使得浑身解术挤上地铁回家。无论是上车还是下车，无论是上班族，工人或者是茫然的旅游观光者此时此刻都变得粗野起来，每当车门打开时，虽然你根本看不到车厢内是否有空荡，你就硬着头皮一拥而上，不得不侧身强迫自己挤进这拥挤不堪的车厢里。 在夏天这样人挨人真的是让我闷的感觉要窒息，就感觉在蒸桑拿。

Finally, getting out into the cooler night air after work was a huge relief, like you could suddenly breath again. After having ridden the subway in Beijing for 2 years not many places feel that crowded to me anymore. Things have improved a lot since and now people queue in a more orderly fashion and there even seems to be more trains so the journeys aren’t as bad but yes, the Beijing subway has to be, hands down, the most crowded place I have ever experienced in my life.
但是在下了地铁后走出来那种扑鼻凉爽夜空的感受是一种极大的放松，就感觉突然我能呼吸了。在北京坐了两年的地铁之后，没有多少其他地方能让我再有拥挤的感觉了。不过最近北京地铁有了很大的改善，现在人们可以有秩序的排队上车，而且上下班高峰时地铁的班次也增多了，感觉比以前要好多了。但是无论如何，必须承认，北京地铁绝对是我到现在为止觉得最拥挤的地方了。
