Russian investigators arrived in Turkey to inspect the scene of their ambassador’s murder by a Turkish police officer. 

Both countries vowed that the assassination would not disrupt their ties. 

Police have detained a number of people, mostly the suspect's family. 

In Istanbul, the authorities went ahead with the opening of a new road tunnel under the Bosphorus strait.

Rescuers searched for wreckage from an EgyptAir Paris-Cairo flight which crashed into the Mediterranean Sea. 

The Airbus A320, carrying 66 passengers and crew, disappeared from the radar shortly after entering Egyptianairspace. 

Greece’s defense minister said the plane made abrupt turns and lost altitude. 

Plastic debris was seen south-east of Crete. 

Suspicions are mounting of a terrorist attack.

German authorities released a 23-year-old Pakistani asylum-seeker who was arrested as a suspect in the massacre at a Berlin Christmas market. 

A Polish-registered lorry ploughed into the crowd, killing 12 and injuring 48, 30 of them seriously.
