Thousands of South Koreans took to the streets demanding the resignation of the country's president, Park Geun-hye. 

They accuse her of allowing a longtime friend and adviser, Choi Soon-sil, to use their close relationship to exert improper influence over state affairs and to benefit financially. 

Mrs Park has sacked several top aides in response to public anger.

Hillary Clinton nearly clinched the Democratic presidential nomination. 

Her rival Bernie Sanders started laying off staff. 

Donald Trump also did well in five east-coast primaries, but needs more big wins, notably in Indiana on Tuesday, for victory before the Republican convention in Cleveland in July. 

The other contenders, John Kasich and Ted Cruz, struck a tactical deal against him.
