Californian company Gateway Foundation hasreleased plans for the Von Braun Station, a cruise ship-style hotel floatingamong the stars. The aim is to get the hotel off the ground by 2025 and make itfully operational for travel by 2027. According to digitally rendered video andimages released by the Gateway Foundation, the station resembles a rotating wheel,comprised of 24 modules, orbiting the Earth. Tim Alatorre, senior designarchitect at the Gateway Foundation, says the rotating wheel would create asimulated gravity. "The station rotates, pushing the contents of thestation out to the perimeter of the station, much in the way that you can spina bucket of water - the water pushes out into the bucket and stays inplace," he tells CNN Travel. Price wise, in the early phase the Von Braunhotel will be catering to those with dollars to spend, but the foundation ishoping to make it equivalent to "a trip on a cruise or a trip toDisneyland."

Do you have calluses on your feet? Don'tfear them, though. New research has revealed that foot calluses - thickenedskin that forms naturally when one walks barefoot - have evolved to protect thefeet and provide for comfortable walking in perhaps ways that shoes can'tmatch. Unlike shoes, foot calluses offer protection without compromisingsensitivity or gait, according to a study published in June online in thejournal Nature. Shoes, in contrast, reduce sensitivity in the foot and alterthe way that the impact forces transfer from the foot to joints higher up theleg. "We suggest children to walk barefoot on humid grass with the purposeto stimulate the afferents (nerves traveling to the brain) for developmentalreasons," said Thomas Milani, a professorship of human locomotion at theTechnische Universitat Chemnitz in Germany, who co-led the study. However,barefoot walking isn't the best idea for everyone. People with diabetes andperipheral neuropathy can wound their feet and not realize it.

Scientists have found the first geneticinstructions hardwired into human DNA that are linked to being left-handed. Theinstructions also seem to be heavily involved in the structure and function ofthe brain - particularly the parts involved in language. The team at theUniversity of Oxford say left-handed people may have better verbal skills as aresult. "It tells us for the first time that handedness has a geneticcomponent," said Prof Gwenaelle Douaud, one of the researchers. In theleft-handed participants, the two halves of the brain - the left and right hemispheres- were better connected and more co-ordinated in regions involved in language.The researchers speculate left-handed people may have better verbal skills. Thestudy also showed slightly higher risks of schizophrenia, and slightly lowerrisks of Parkinson's disease, in left-handed people.
