Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara is best known for portraits that repeatedly depict a young girl with piercing eyes, set against a blank and pristine background. The girl looks directly at the viewer, sometimes wearing a pure smile and other times casting a hostile glance, and seems to question the world of adults.

"Knife Behind Back", an acrylic painting on canvas that Nara created in 2000, sold for HK$196 million on Sunday during Sotheby's sales in Hong Kong. The price made Nara's work the most expensive by a living Japanese artist.

The painting, measuring 2.34 meters by 2.08 meters, shows the angry-looking young girl who appears in Nara's work, rendered in a standing posture to one side, with her right arm behind her body while her left arm is visible, conveying an atmosphere mixed with stillness and tension.

The US space agency NASA's planet-hunting Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) has observed the rarely-seen aftermath of a star that was violently ripped apart by a supermassive black hole. The study published in Astrophysical Journal described the tidal disruption event, named ASASSN-19bt, about 375 million light-years away. 
美国国家航空航天局的行星探测器——凌日系外行星勘测卫星"苔丝"日前捕捉到一个超大质量的黑洞暴烈撕裂一颗行星的罕见画面。该研究发表在《天文物理期刊》上，描述了这个被命名为"ASASSN-19bt"、发生在大约距地球3.75亿光年外的"潮汐破坏"事件。

The event tends to occur when a star gets too close to a supermassive black hole and the black hole's forces overwhelm the star's gravity and tear it to shreds. Some of its material gets flung out into space and the rest falls back into the black hole, forming an accretion disk of hot, bright gas as it is consumed. 
当一颗恒星离一个超大质量黑洞太近，且黑洞的力量远大于恒星重力时，恒星便被撕成碎片，这时通常会发生"潮汐破坏"事件。恒星的部分物质会被抛入太空，其余物质则落入黑洞。随着恒星被吞噬，会形成一个由又热又亮气体组成的吸积盘。

Astronomers estimated the supermassive black hole that generated the event weighs about 6 million times the sun's mass. It sits at the center of a galaxy in the constellation Volans. The destroyed star may have been similar in size to the sun. Tidal disruptions occur once every 10,000 to 100,000 years in a galaxy the size of Milky Way.

China's domestic attractions saw about 782 million visits during the seven-day National Day holiday, up 7.81% year-on-year, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced on Monday. Tourists' spending during the holiday reached nearly 650 billion yuan, an increase of 8.47% from the previous year, the ministry said. 
文化和旅游部7日宣布，国庆节7天假期期间，国内旅游景点共接待游客约7.82亿人次，同比增长7.81%；实现国内旅游收入近6500亿元，较去年同期增长8.47%。

"Red Tourism", or tourism themed on the revolution, remained a highlight. About 78.84% of tourists participated in activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, according to statistics from the ministry.

About 66.4% of the tourists visited sites related to history and culture, while 44.96% participated in nighttime tourist activities. Moreover, over 7 million outbound trips were made by the Chinese during the holiday, the ministry said.

Chinese basketball fans and organizations have taken a strong stance against Houston Rockets executive Daryl Morey's tweet backing violent protesters in Hong Kong. The Chinese Basketball Association, now chaired by Yao Ming, announced that it has suspended any exchanges and cooperation with the Rockets.

Multiple Chinese brands, including sports brand Li-Ning and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, announced that they were pulling sponsorship deals with the Rockets.
