狮子王

The hot African (非洲) sun rose on an amazing sight. Giraffes, zebras, elephants, and animals of all kinds were gathered at Pride Rock (荣耀石). This was an important day.

炎热的非洲，烈日升起，壮丽无比。长颈鹿、斑马、大象，还有各种各样的动物都聚集在荣耀石旁。今天是个重要的日子。

King Mufasa (木法沙国王) and Queen Sarabi (沙拉碧王后) watched as Rafiki (拉飞奇), the wise baboon (狒狒), presented (展示) their newborn (刚出生的) son to the kingdom. The animals cheered and bowed before Prince Simba (辛巴王子).

木法沙国王和沙拉碧王后正在一边看着，充满智慧的狒狒拉飞奇把刚出生的小王子介绍给大家。动物们都欢呼起来，他们为辛巴小王子屈膝祝贺。

But one family member didn’t attend the celebration—Mufasa’s brother, Scar (刀疤). Scar was angry that he was no longer (不再) next in line to be king.

但是，有一位家族成员没有来参加庆祝典礼——那就是木法沙的弟弟，刀疤。刀疤心里很愤恨，因为小王子一出生，他就不再是下一个顺位继承者了。

Mufasa and his assistant, Zazu (沙祖), went to ask Scar why he had missed the presentation (庆典) of Simba.

木法沙和他的助手沙祖，找到了刀疤，问他为什么没来参加辛巴的出生庆典。

“Oh, it must have slipped my mind,” Scar sneered (冷笑), and he walked away.

“噢，我就是忘了，”刀疤冷笑着走开了。

Simba grew into a playful and curious cub. Early one morning, Mufasa brought Simba to the top of Pride Rock. “Everything that the light touches (接触) is our kingdom,” he told his son. “One day the sun will set on my time here and will rise with you as the new king.”

辛巴慢慢长成了一只充满好奇又爱玩儿的小狮子。有一天早上，木法沙带着辛巴来到荣耀石顶上。“太阳能够照到的地方都是我们的国土，”木法沙告诉自己的儿子，“有一天太阳会在这里落下，那时我的统治已经结束，但同时太阳又会在这里升起，欢迎你成为新的国王。”

“Wow!” Simba cried. “But what about that shadowy (有阴影的) place?”

“哇!”辛巴喊道。“那那些有阴影的地方呢？”

“You must never go across the border, Simba,” said Mufasa sternly.

“辛巴，（那里不属于我们，）你永远也不要跨过边界，”木法沙坚定地说。

“But I thought a king can do whatever he wants,” said Simba.

“可是我以为国王能做任何自己想做的事啊，”辛巴说道。

Mufasa explained. “There’s more to being king than getting your way all the time. You need to respect (尊重) all creatures (生灵). We are all connected in the great Circle of Life (生命的轮回).”

木法沙解释说，“做一个国王可不是你想的那样随心所欲。你必须尊重所有的生灵。在伟大的轮回中，我们都紧密相连。”

Simba tried to listen but he was busy (忙于) chasing grasshoppers and practicing his pounce.

辛巴本想认真听，不过他还要忙着追蚂蚱，学习突袭技巧呢。

Just then, Zazu arrived with important news. Hyenas (鬣狗) had crossed into the Pride Lands (荣耀国)!

就在这时候，沙祖来了，他带来了重要的消息。鬣狗已经跨过了荣耀国的边界了！

Mufasa ordered Zazu to take Simba home, and ran off to battle the hyenas.

木法沙命令沙祖带辛巴回家，然后他自己跑去和鬣狗战斗了。

“I never get to go anywhere,” Simba complained.

“我天天哪儿也去不了，”辛巴抱怨道。

Back at home, Simba went to see his uncle Scar. “My dad just showed me the whole kingdom,” the cub bragged (炫耀). “And I’m gonna rule it all!”

回到家之后，辛巴去找自己的叔叔刀疤了。“爸爸刚才领我看了整个王国，”小辛巴炫耀道。“以后我就可以统治这片土地了！”

“Did he show you that place beyond the border?” asked Scar slyly. “Only the bravest of lions would dare go to an elephant graveyard (大象墓园).”

“那他带你去边界外面看了吗？”刀疤狡猾地问道。“只有最勇敢的狮子才敢到那儿去，那里是大象墓园。”

Simba didn’t see his uncle’s evil trap (陷阱). He decided to show his father what a brave cub (幼崽) he could be.

辛巴没有识破叔叔的邪恶陷阱。他决定向爸爸展示一下他是个勇敢的小狮子。

Simba set out to find his best friend, Nala (娜娜). She was lying with their mothers on a rock nearby. “Mom, can Nala and I go to this great place . . . near the water hole?” fibbed Simba.

辛巴出发去找自己最好的朋友娜娜。娜娜正和他们的妈妈们躺在附近的一块石头上。“妈妈，我和娜娜能一起去水坑边上……的一个好玩儿的地方吗?”辛巴撒了个小谎。

“As long as Zazu goes with you,” answered Sarabi.

“只要沙祖陪着你们，就可以去，”沙拉碧王后回答。

“We’ve got to ditch (摆脱) Zazu!” Simba whispered to Nala. “We’re really going to an elephant graveyard (墓园)!”

“咱们不会带沙祖去的！”辛巴悄悄跟娜娜说。“咱们其实是要去大象墓园里！”
