1. Park   v.停车

在大城市里开车,停车往往是令人头痛的问题。

If you drive a car in a big city, parking is always a big headache.

你不能把车停到“禁止停车”的区域。

You should not park your car in “No Parking” areas.

你必须去找一些停车场,或者停车库。

You have to look for a parking lot or a parking garage.

停车场(地面上):parking lot


停车库:parking garage


地下停车库:underground parking garage

  

停车位:a parking space / a parking spot

造句:在市中心,找停车位是很难的事。(听记1) 


【注意:It is no easy job (绝非容易的事)的语气强于It is not an easy job】 Sometimes it takes you half an hour or even longer to find a parking space.

valet parking 代客泊车服务

valet parking指顾客的车由专人负责停放。

Valet parking is a parking service offered by some restaurants, stores, and hotels, particularly in North America. 

Valet parking means that customers' vehicles are parked for them by a person called a valet.

valet /ˈvælɪt,ˈvæleɪ/ n.为客人停车的人【valet原指贴身男仆】

A valet is someone who parks your car for you at a restaurant or a hotel.


与valet parking相对的就是self-parking

In contrast to "valet parking", self-parking means you have to find a parking space on your own.


2. Traffic  n.交通

英文解释:

Traffic refers to all the vehicles that are moving along the roads in a particular area.


造句:晚上路上几乎没什么车。

There isn’t much traffic on the roads at night.


高峰期路上车水马龙。

There is heavy traffic on the roads during the rush hours.


太多车多容易造成堵车:traffic jams(可数)/ traffic congestion(不可数)

Too much traffic causes traffic jams/traffic congestion.


有时交通拥堵是交通事故造成的。

Sometimes, traffic jams are caused by traffic accidents.


什么造成交通事故?

What causes traffic accidents?

交通事故一个重要原因是人们不遵守交通规则。

One major cause of traffic accidents is that people don’t follow traffic rules.


违反交规,比如:闯红灯。

For example, some cars/drivers run a red light.             

Some people jaywalk (行人闯红灯). They ignore(无视) the traffic lights.

Some people drive too fast and will be fined(罚款) for speeding(超速驾驶).


还有些人酒后驾车:Some people even drive their cars after drinking.

And they will be severely punished(严厉惩罚) for drink-driving (酒后驾车) or drunk-driving (醉酒驾车).

Drink-drivers or drunk-drivers will be put to jail in China.

在中国酒驾司机要被送进监狱。                  


3. Ticket  n.票,罚单

A ticket is an official piece of paper ordering you to pay a fine, because you have done something illegal while driving or parking your car.


〔交通违章〕罚款通知,罚单


traffic tickets 交通罚单

a parking ticket 乱停车罚单

a speeding ticket 超速罚单

a red light ticket  闯红灯罚单  

I hope you will never receive any traffic tickets.      


4.  Note

1)便条:A note is a short letter.

我妈妈给我留了张便条。(听记2)


亚当来访之后给我写了一张感谢卡。

Adam wrote a note of thanks to me after his visit.


2)notes笔记(常用复数)

Notes are the information that you write down during a lesson or from a book.


记笔记能帮助你复习课堂中的要点信息。(听记3)


Can I borrow your lecture notes?

我能不能借用一下你的课堂笔记?


3) Note  n.音乐中的音符

高音/低音:high/low note

Mary has a good voice but has trouble hitting the high notes.

Mary嗓音很好,但唱高音有困难。


5.  Area  n.地段,地区

区别:

1)area泛指地方、区域,可大可小:


我家只有一个很小的餐厅。

I have only a small dining area at home.    

这是一个禁烟区。(听记4)


a wealthy area 富人区      

They live in the wealthy area.

a commercial area 商业区

rural areas 农村地区

urban areas 城市地区


2)District城市里的行政区(大小相对固定):


上海杨浦区 Yangpu district,Shanghai

北京海淀区 Haidian District, Beijing  

深圳南山区 Nanshan District,Shenzhen

伦敦金融区 the financial district of London

注意:浦东新区:Pudong New Area(因为范围没有最终确定) 


3)Region [=a large area of a country or the world]


中国西部 the Western region of China

西部大开发 Western region development


4)Zone n.地带:强调与周边不同


A zone is an area that is different from other areas around it in some way.

时区:time zone

战区:war zone

上海自贸区:Shanghai Free-Trade Zone


6.Sign

1)标记,指示牌

交通指示牌:Traffic signs.

路牌:Street signs. 

2)迹象,痕迹,征兆

A sign is an event or a fact that shows that something is happening or that something is true or exists.

在森林中发现有人的足迹。 

There is a sign of life in the forest.

哭被看作软弱的表现。(听记5)


7. Reminder  n.提醒

Remind  v.提醒 to make someone remember something that they must do.


I remind myself every morning: Nothing I say this day will teach me anything. So if I'm going to learn, I must do it by listening.

重点用法1. Remind sb. of sth使人想起

这张照片让我想起了童年。

The picture reminds me of my childhood.

The picture is a reminder of my childhood.


这首歌让我想起了我的家乡。(听记6)


这个纪念馆提醒人们记住历史。

The memorial reminds people of the history.


重点用法 2. remind sb. to do sth


你能提醒我给手机充电吗?

Could you remind me to charge my cellphone? 

你能提醒我买火车票吗?(听记7)


8.Fail


1)未能做到...

If you fail to do something that you were trying to do, you are unable to do it or do not succeed in doing it.       

造句:我们没能赶上飞机。

We failed to catch the plane. = We missed the plane.

他没能拿到冠军。(听记8)


如果总是做到:never fail to ...

Susan never fails to keep her word.(word这里表示诺言)

Susan一直信守诺言。

Mark总能在周末早起。

Mark never fails to get up early on weekends.

= Mark can always get up early on weekends.


2)失败了  

英语名言:Failing to plan is planning to fail.  

没有计划,那么就是计划要失败。

类似中文:预则立,不预则废。

3)考试不及格

4)失灵,衰竭

If something fails, it stops working properly.

My grandfather’s eyesight is failing.(听记9)


The engine failed as I was driving the car.

我正开着车,引擎失灵了。

遵守规则(法律)

Follow the rules / laws

违反规则(法律)
