When we have the capacity to be peaceful and joyful as we sit, we can sit anywhere. We can sit in the airport. We can sit in the train station. We can sit on the bank of a river. We can sit in prison. If everyone in the world knew how to sit like that, this world would have more peace, joy, and happiness.
When we’re sitting, we’re truly there in the present moment; we have come home, we have arrived. We are present in that time and place; we’re not pulled away by the past, the future, or by anger or jealousy in the present. When we sit like that, we sit as a free person.
