 24.企者不立；跨者不行；自见者不明；自是者不彰；自伐者无功；自矜者不长。其在道也．曰：余食赘（zhui:四声）形。物或恶之，故有道者不处。 〖解读〗

One cannot stand firm on tiptoe;

Neither can he walk far by striding too wide.

One who sees only himself has no good vision;

He who thinks only himself right cannot be recognized.

He who boasts of himself will not achieve;

He who thinks himself superior cannot endure.

In the light of the divine law such behavior is like superfluous food.

Those who follow the divine law will stay away.
