Two panda experts from the Chinese mainland arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday after Taipei Zoo’s Tuan Tuan was suspected to have a malignant brain tumor. The experts visited the panda twice on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, finding that the health condition of Tuan Tuan is better than expected, island media Chinatimes.com reported on Wednesday, citing the Taipei Zoo.
台北市立动物园大熊猫“团团”疑似罹患恶性脑瘤，11月1日，两位大陆专家抵台提供救助并已在11月1日和2日两度前往动物园探视，据台湾中时新闻网2日报道，大猫熊馆长陈玉燕透露，专家探视后发现“团团”病情比想象中乐观。


The 18-year-old male panda, named Tuan Tuan, is one of two giant pandas gifted by the mainland to Taiwan in 2008. Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan gave birth to "Yuan Zai" and "Yuan Bao", who are beloved by many of Taiwan’s residents. 
十八岁的大熊猫“团团”是大陆赠台大熊猫之一，2008年起在台北安家，并与另一只同期赠台的大熊猫“圆圆”先后产下“圆仔”和“圆宝”，受到众多台湾民众喜爱。


After symptoms of epilepsy were observed in August, Tuan Tuan was tested twice with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in September and October respectively. The test showed that the infected area was enlarged and the disease had rapidly worsened. Although the condition of Tuan Tuan has not been confirmed, it is highly likely that he has a malignant brain tumor. 
“团团”自2022年8月被观察到疑似癫痫的症状后，分别于9月和10月接受了两次核磁共振检查，发现病灶区域明显扩大，病情进展快速。虽然“团团”的病情尚未确认，但从检查结果看，极有可能是脑部患有恶性肿瘤。


The health condition of Tuan Tuan aroused concerns on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. The Taipei Zoo said it has exchanged detailed information with the experts and has reached an agreement concerning the treatment. The experts have checked on the panda and will give feedback on whether or not it is the animal's brain that is causing weakness in its hind limbs, according to the report.
“团团”的病情牵动着两岸民众的心。台北市立动物园表示，他们跟大陆专家讨论了一些医疗的细节，专家也很同意目前园方的做法，而至于是否为脑部的影响导致后肢无力，专家后续也会给一些回馈。


There is no updated treatment plan yet, and the two experts will communicate with other mainland experts over the next few days. It is hoped that they can form opinions based on the observation of the panda's behavior, but it will take three to four days, according to a report from the Taipei Zoo.
针对医疗的部分，园方表示，目前还没有更新的策略出现，两位专家这几天也会再跟大陆相关经验人士沟通。郑秋虹表示，希望两位专家能从“团团”行为上观察来给意见，但需要3至4天的观察。


Taiwan's Council of Agriculture once said that Tuan Tuan could be sent back to the Chinese mainland, causing criticism from residents in Taiwan. Many netizens expressed their gratitude to the mainland experts for coming to Taiwan and hoped that Tuan Tuan's condition can be improved.
台当局“农委会”曾称可以把“团团”送回大陆，引起台湾各界的批评。也有不少网友在网上留言，对大陆专家来台表示感谢，希望“团团”的病情能够改善。
