Nation urged to strive for new victories

President visits exhibition that showcases China's key achievements

President Xi Jinping called on Tuesday for the entire Chinese people to unite in writing a new chapter in comprehensively building a modern socialist country and securing new victories for socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while visiting an exhibition in Beijing showcasing the great achievements the Party and the nation have made over the past decade, since the country entered the new era.

Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has united and led the whole Party and people from all ethnic groups nationwide in addressing difficulties that could not be overcome for a long time, and succeeded in dealing with many issues that matter to the nation's long-term development, as well as withstanding political, economic, ideological and natural risks and challenges, Xi said.

The cause of the Party and the State has made historical achievements and undergone historical transformations, and these have provided support for national rejuvenation in terms of improved systems, a strong economic foundation and massive intellectual strength, he added.

Xi urged efforts to make people know more about the strategic measures, reforms, important progress and achievements the nation has made over the past decade to enable them to better understand the landmark significance of the great transformations in the Party's history as well as in Chinese history.

The exhibition — Forging Ahead in the New Era — opened on Tuesday morning at the Beijing Exhibition Hall. It includes more than 6,000 photographs, materials and models showcasing China's achievements in a wide range of fields, including independent technological innovation, fighting poverty and the COVID-19 pandemic, and progress in the country's integrated development.

Other leaders, including Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji and Han Zheng, also joined Xi in visiting the exhibition.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, addressed the opening ceremony, saying that the event is an important part of the publicity work in preparation for the 20th National Congress of the CPC.

The exhibition is being held to guide all officials and the public to continue to forge ahead under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with General Secretary Xi at its core, remain committed to the leadership of the CPC and China's socialist system, and resolutely follow the CPC in sticking to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and promoting national rejuvenation through a Chinese path to modernization.

Wang Huning also said that the fundamental reason why historic achievements and historic shifts have been made in the cause of the Party and the country is the helmsmanship and leadership of General Secretary Xi and the sound guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

Wang stressed the need to maintain a high degree of unity with the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core.
