UK to halve business energy prices this winter

The wholesale price of gas and electricity for all non-domestic customers in the United Kingdom (UK) will be cut by half their anticipated level during this winter under a government support plan that was unveiled on Wednesday. Under the new Energy Bill Relief Scheme, the discounted price will be available to all businesses, charities and public sector organizations, including schools and hospitals, between Oct 1 and March 31, 2023.

Babies in the womb react positively to their mothers eating carrots but appear to cry after they have eaten green vegetables, a new study suggests. The study is the first in the world to look at how babies react to taste and smell before they are born. Researchers believe unborn babies can experience the flavor of their mother's food by inhaling or swallowing amniotic fluid in the womb. Researchers at Durham University took 4D ultrasounds of 100 pregnant women at 32 and 36 weeks, 20 minutes after consuming tablets filled with either carrot or kale powder.

They found that fetuses whose mothers had taken the carrot tablets appeared to make 'smiling faces' soon afterward. But scans of women who took the kale tablets showed their babies making 'crying faces'. The results of the study could mean mothers are able to influence their babies' taste preferences before they are born, encouraging them to eat healthy and avoid 'food fussiness'.
