【1】
Do you think you have what it takes to become a straight-A student? Contrary to popular belief, you don't necessarily have to be the smartest person to get great grades.
You just need to study smart, not just hard!
1. sb have what it takes to do sth
I don’t believe what he said.
= I don’t believe the thing that he said.
I finally became what I used to hate.
= I finally became the person that I used to hate.
It’s important to practice English every day.
= To practice English every day is important.
sb have what it takes to do sth
= sb have the things/abilities that to do sth takes(这样比较啰嗦,所以往往不这么说)
2. a straight-A student 全部拿A的学生=学霸
a top student 尖子生
3. contrary 英/ˈkɒntrəri/ 美/ˈkɑːntreri/ adj.
contrary to popular belief
4. necessarily英/ˌnesəˈserəli; ˈnesəsərəli/ 美/ˌnesəˈserəli/
adv. 必要地
