一、重庆姐弟坠亡案宣判：生父和女友被判死刑| Murdering Two Young Children, Chongqing Father Surnamed Zhangand His Girlfriend were Sentenced to Death

A Chongqing father surnamed Zhang and his girlfriend were sentenced to death by the Chongqing No 5 Intermediate People's Court on Tuesday for murdering his two young children by throwing them out of a high-rise apartment window.

2021年12月28日，重庆张某及其女友因将张某两名亲生未成年子女扔出高层公寓窗户，构成故意杀人罪，被重庆市第五中级人民法院判处死刑。

According to prosecutors, Zhang filed for divorce from his now former wife Chen in April 2019 to pursue an online friend, surnamed Ye.

据公诉机关称，为追求网友叶某，张某于2019年4月与其前妻陈某提出离婚。

Ye kept telling Zhang that she could not accept the fact that Zhang had children. Subsequently, the pair conspired to kill both children by staging an "accidental fall" so they could then start a new family of their own, prosecutors said.

叶某多次向张某表示，她不能接受张某有小孩。公诉机关表示，随后两人合谋采用制造“意外高坠”的方式杀害两名儿童，以便他们可以组建自己的新家庭。

In June last year, Ye repeatedly urged Zhang through WeChat to commit the crime. Zhang’s son was under his care and already resided with him in his apartment. On Nov 1, Zhang asked his ex-wife Chen to bring their daughter to his apartment to stay overnight. At about 3:30 pm the next day, with no other adult present, Zhang threw both children out the window. The 2-year-old girl died at the scene and the 1-year-old boy died at the hospital.

去年6月，叶某多次通过微信催促张某作案。张某的儿子由张某抚养，已与张某一起住在其公寓里。11月1日，张某让前妻陈某带着女儿到他的公寓过夜。次日15时30分许，在没有其他成年人在场的情况下，张某将两个孩子都扔出了窗外。2岁女孩当场死亡，1岁男孩经送医院抢救无效死亡。

Prosecutors said the defendants, Zhang and Ye, had jointly committed intentional homicide and that their actions constituted a crime subject to criminal responsibility under the law.

公诉机关认为，被告人张某、叶某共同故意杀人，致二人死亡，依法应当以故意杀人罪追究其刑事责任。

二、反有组织犯罪法表决通过|China Adopts Anti-Organized Crime Law

Chinese lawmakers on Friday voted to adopt an anti-organized crime law in order to strengthen the work of combating and rooting out organized crime in line with the rule of law. The law, to take effect on May 1, 2022, was approved at a session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

为保障在法治轨道上常态化开展扫黑除恶工作，12月24日，十三届全国人大常委会第三十二次会议表决通过《中华人民共和国反有组织犯罪法》。该法自2022年5月1日起施行。

The law includes provisions on the criteria for identifying various types of "soft violence", such as organized disturbing, pestering and assembling a crowd to cause an uproar for illegal profits or illegal impacts, as well as the responsibilities of regulators in various industries.

反有组织犯罪法规定了“软暴力”手段的认定，明确为谋取非法利益或者形成非法影响，有组织地进行滋扰、纠缠、哄闹、聚众造势等，可以认定为有组织犯罪的犯罪手段。该法还对行业监管职责作出明确规定。

An improved long-term mechanism to prevent and control organized crime within industries will be established, according to the law, which also calls for strengthened oversight and management of industries and fields where organized crime is liable to occur.

据反有组织犯罪法，将建立健全行业有组织犯罪预防和治理长效机制，对有组织犯罪易发的行业领域加强监督管理。

To better prevent organized crimes against minors, the law also stipulates that organized crime activities involving minors will face heavier criminal penalties.

为防止黑恶势力侵害未成年人，反有组织犯罪法规定，实施有组织犯罪侵害未成年人权益将依法从重追究刑事责任。

三、羽生结弦获北京冬奥会门票|Japan's Hanyu Qualifiesfor Beijing 2022

Japan's superstar skater Yuzuru Hanyu will fight for his third successive Olympic crown after winning his sixth national title and qualifying for the Beijing Olympic Winter Games on Sunday. The 27-year-old, competing in his first event in more than eight months, performed a long-awaited quadruple axel but landed with two feet.

12月26日，日本花滑名将、27岁的羽生结弦第6次获得全日锦标赛冠军，同时也拿到了北京冬奥会参赛资格，将向冬奥会3连冠发起冲击。此次全日锦标赛是羽生结弦8个多月来的首次亮相，他挑战了备受期待的4A跳（阿克塞尔四周半跳），但最后双脚落冰。

"I can finally breathe a sigh of relief," he said of the quadruple axel, adding that landing with two feet is a result he can "accept at the moment". "I will continue the practice," he said.

赛后羽生结弦表示：“说实在的，松了一口气。正式比赛时双脚落冰，我觉得现在可以接受。我会继续努力练习的。”

Asked if he would perform the quad axel again in Beijing, he simply said, "I will try my best."
