Spring Showers (2)

Only Michael Jackson was the highlight of that miserable period of life.

I often watched Michael Jackson dance, together with my mother.

Sometimes on a hot summer afternoon, the two of us would wake up from a nap and watch . Her eyes shining, my mum would take out a disc and say: “Little one, let's watch this.”

And then in my eyes, the mysterious person who always wore black clothes with white socks, black hat with white gloves, would appear. On stage he was like a robot! His body could be inclined to an unbelievable degree, but no matter what he did he would not fall! Even the way he walked was different from the average person... At that time I did not even know what was amazing and what was great, I just felt that when I saw this person, I could not look away.

Until now I can still remember that amazing sight, it was Michael Jackson's concert. After the show opened, he rose slowly from the bottom of the stage, stood at the centre of the stage, and never moved throughout. From the moment Michael Jackson appeared, there was ceaseless manic applause and screams from the audience below the stage. And then the first person started to faint, and the second person fainted. It was only about 3 or 5 minutes, but people kept being carried out and people kept crying.

That stage, and that person standing on the stage....he did not move, yet it seemed like there was something massive enveloping everyone from overhead. That was a kind of overpowering aura from the stage that made my heart pound as a child.

Today’s key points:

Spring Showers (2)

Only Michael Jackson was the highlight of that miserable period of life.

I often watched Michael Jackson dance, together with my mother.

Sometimes on a hot summer afternoon,

the two of us would wake up from a nap and watch .

Her eyes shining, my mum would take out a disc and say:

> shine [ʃaɪn] vi.

Eg. It is a mild morning and the sun is shining

Eg. Did you shine at school?...

“Little one, let's watch this.”

And then in my eyes, the mysterious person who always wore black clothes with white socks, black hat with white gloves, would appear.

On stage he was like a robot!

His body could be inclined to an unbelievable degree, but no matter what he did he would not fall!

Eg. I incline to the view that he is right.

Eg. The road he took had a steep incline.

Even the way he walked was different from the average person...

> average [ˈævərɪdʒ,ˈævrɪdʒ] adj.

Eg. The train's average speed was no better than that of our bicycles.

Eg. 40 hours is a fairly average working week for most people.

At that time I did not even know what was amazing and what was great,

I just felt that when I saw this person, I could not look away.

Until now I can still remember that amazing sight,

it was Michael Jackson's concert.

After the show opened, he rose slowly from the bottom of the stage,

stood at the centre of the stage, and never moved throughout.

From the moment Michael Jackson appeared, there was ceaseless manic applause and screams from the audience below the stage.

> ceaseless [ˈsislɪs] adj.

Eg. There is a ceaseless struggle from noon to night.

Eg. I'm really grateful to my parents for their ceaseless support when I was down.

And then the first person started to faint,

and the second person fainted.

It was only about 3 or 5 minutes,

but people kept being carried out and people kept crying.

That stage, and that person standing on the stage…

he did not move, yet it seemed like there was something massive enveloping everyone from overhead.

> massive [ˈmæsɪv] adj.

Eg. The explosion made a massive hole in the ground.

Eg. He died six weeks later of a massive heart attack.

That was a kind of overpowering aura from the stage that made my heart pound as a child.

> overpowering [ˌoʊvərˈpaʊərɪŋ] adj.

Eg. This perfume is strong but the smell is not overpowering.

Eg. The singers sang that love is significant and overpowering.
