Beginning of Spring（6）

The people at home have personalities like this, therefore the key characteristic of my family is, everyone seems to be unable to speak nicely. My grandmother often tells me, that I am more obedient than my mother was. My mother also tells me, she hopes that in the future there will not be a generation gap between me and her, the way there is one between my grandparents and her. My mother feels that there is a generation gap between them, so they are unable to communicate.

When I was young I often felt very confused, and had no sense of security. My mother often appeared like a whirlwind, fought with my grandparents, and then escaped like a whirlwind again.

My grandparents love me very much, but they are just like traditional old people, concerned about whether I've eaten, whether I am dressed warmly. But children always want their mothers by their sides. And I always felt that my mother was a powerful and invincible superwoman, as long as she was around, no matter what I did, she would always rescue me, and will forever stand by my side.

These are things my grandfather will definitely not do. I’ve known since I was young, because grandfather was a party member, if I got into a fight I must definitely, definitely not let grandfather know.

therefore the key characteristic of my family is,

大家好像都没有办法好好说话

My grandmother often tells me, that I am more obedient than my mother was.

我外婆常跟我说，我比我妈听话

Eg. He was very respectful at home and obedient to his parents 

他在家里对父母十分恭敬顺从。 

My mother also tells me,

我妈又会跟我说

she hopes that in the future there will not be a generation gap between me and her, the way there is one between my grandparents and her.

她不想以后她跟我之间，出现像她和爷爷、外婆之间一样的代沟

Eg. The main road goes through the mountain gap. 

那条大路穿过峡谷。

Eg. I went around the world in my gap year before university.

My mother feels that there is a generation gap between them, so they are unable to communicate.

我妈是觉得他们之间有代沟，没法沟通

When I was young I often felt very confused, and had no sense of security.

My mother often appeared like a whirlwind,

我妈常常旋风一般出现

Eg. They got married last year after a whirlwind romance. 

他们在旋风式的恋爱之后于去年结婚了。

fought with my grandparents,

和爷爷外婆大吵一架之后

and then escaped like a whirlwind again.

再旋风一般逃走

My grandparents love me very much,

爷爷和外婆很爱我

but they are just like traditional old people,

但他们就跟传统的老人一样

concerned about whether I've eaten, whether I am dressed warmly.

关心你吃饱了没，穿暖了没

But children always want their mothers by their sides.

但小孩子总是想要妈妈时刻在身边的

And I always felt that my mother was a powerful and invincible superwoman,

而且我总觉得我妈是勇猛无敌女超人

> invincible [ɪnˈvɪnsəbəl] adj.无敌的;不可战胜的，不能征服的;无攻不克;无前

Eg. He wants to be in an invincible position in the competition. 

他想要在竞争中立于不败之地。

as long as she was around, no matter what I did,

有她在，不管我做了什么

she would always rescue me, and will forever stand by my side.

她都会救我，也会永远站在我身边

> stand by one's side 站在某人身边,也可以理解为支持

Eg. I'll be with you, and stand by your side for evermore. 

我会一直陪着你，站在你的身边，直到永远。

stand by支持;准备行动;信守诺言;站在旁边

Eg. I must stand by what I have said. 

我一定信守我说过的话。

stand by sb支持某人

Eg. They will stand by you even if you don't succeed. 

即使你不成功，他们也会支持你。

by one's side 在某人身边，在某人附近

Eg. She was always by her father's side when he was ill.

她父亲生病时她总是不离左右。

These are things my grandfather will definitely not do.

这些是爷爷绝对不会做的

I’ve known since I was young, because grandfather was a party member,

我从小就知道，因为爷爷是书记

if I got into a fight I must definitely, definitely not let grandfather know.

所以打架是绝对绝对不能让爷爷知道的
