Beginning of Spring(7)

Once when I was skipping rope as a child, the rope accidentally hit the little chubby kid from the neighbour's who was passing by. It wasn't a big deal originally, but the little chubby kid actually thought I did it intentionally, he grabbed the rope and lashed it across my face, and so we fought.

Of course I won the fight. Although I came home covered with dirt, I was as triumphant as I could be. In the end when I got home, I got caught by grandfather. A few simple questions, and grandfather dragged me to the neighbour's house. He did not scold me. but in front of myseif and the little chubby kid, he formally bowed to his parents and apologised. At that time I was completely stunned, it was as though someone had wrung my neck, making me feel aggrieved, uncomfortable, and there was a tight sensation in my chest.

My grandfather was a party member! He was a party member! On what basis did he have to apologise to others? What more lower his head and bend his back!

I really felt that I did nothing wrong!

I still did not understand what grandfather did, so in my heart I secretly concluded: grandfather most likely did not love me. Otherwise why was it that no matter who I fought with, regardless of whether I was justified or not, I was the one who was wrong? Why was he never partial towards me? How bad could I have been, that I actually caused grandfather to be so disgraced?!

Today’s key points:

Once when I was skipping rope as a child,

the rope accidentally hit the little chubby kid from the neighbour's who was passing by.

It wasn't a big deal originally,

but the little chubby kid actually thought I did it intentionally,

> intentionally [ɪnˈtɛnʃənl:ɪ] adv.

Eg. I'm sorry but I had not done it intentionally.

he grabbed the rope and lashed it across my face, and so we fought.

> grab [ɡræb]vt.& vi.

Eg. She grabbed the chance of a job interview

Of course I won the fight.

Although I came home covered with dirt,

I was as triumphant as I could be.

> triumphant [traɪˈʌmfənt] adj.

Eg. The victorious general made a triumphant return.

In the end when I got home, I got caught by grandfather.

A few simple questions, and grandfather dragged me to the neighbour's house.

He did not scold me. but in front of myseif and the little chubby kid,

he formally bowed to his parents and apologized.

At that time I was completely stunned,

it was as though someone had wrung my neck, making me feel aggrieved, uncomfortable, and there was a tight sensation in my chest.

My grandfather was a party member!

He was a party member!

On what basis did he have to apologize to others?!

What more lower his head and bend his back!

I really felt that I did nothing wrong!

I still did not understand what grandfather did,

so in my heart I secretly concluded:

grandfather most likely did not love me.

> likely [ˈlaɪkli] adj.

Eg. They will most likely come right away.

Eg. It's not likely to rain today.

Otherwise why was it that no matter who I fought with,

regardless of whether I was justified or not,

> justified [ˈdʒʌstəˌfaɪd] adj.

Eg. He is fairly justified in doing so.

Eg. He's absolutely justified in resigning. He was treated shamefully.

Eg. Don't try to justify your mistakes.

I was the one who was wrong?

Why was he never partial towards me?

> partial [ˈpɑ:rʃl] adj.

Eg. I am partial to baking cookies.

Eg. He's partial to sporty girl with blue eyes

How bad could I have been,

that I actually caused grandfather to be so disgraced?!

> disgraced [dis'greist] adj.

Eg. I disgraced myself by drinking far too much.

Eg. It's really a disgrace!

Eg. He was in disgrace because he had lied.
