(1)Due to / Owing to 

Due to and owing to are also followed by a noun. These words are a little more formal. 

There’s a lot of traffic today due to the upcoming holiday. (holiday = noun)  由于即将到来的假期,今天交通很拥挤。(假期=名词)

The after-school program was canceled owing to lack of interest from the students.(lack = noun)  由于学生们缺乏兴趣,课外活动被取消了。


(2)Due to the fact that / Owing to the fact that 

Use these phrases before a subject + verb. Again, these phrases are a little more formal. 

Many people are still unemployed due to the fact that the economic recovery has been slower than anticipated.  由于经济复苏比预期的慢,许多人仍然失业。

The publisher rejected the author’s latest work owing to the fact that the manuscript was full of errors.  出版商拒绝了作者的最新作品,因为原稿错误百出。

Linking words: Results.

1.Therefore / Consequently / As a result 

These words are more formal, and are more commonly used in written English. 

Our company’s profits have increased 150% in the pastyear. Therefore, we’re going to invest in new equipment and training programs.  *I think, therefore I am. 我们公司的利润在过去的年里增长了150%。因此,我们打算投资新设备和培训项目。*我思故我在。

The tennis player had knee surgery mid-October; consequently, she took the rest of the season off.  这位网球运动员在10月中旬做了膝盖手术;因此,她休了剩下的赛季。

There have been heavy rains throughout the whole country. As a result, several areas have experienced flooding.  全国各地都下着大雨。结果,一些地区遭遇了洪水。


2.So 

“So” is more informal, and more commonly used in spoken English. 

We were hungry, so we stopped at a cafe for a snack. 我们饿了,所以我们在一家咖啡馆停下来吃点心。
