THE DONKEY IN THE LION’S SKIN

A Donkey found a Lion’s skin and dressed himself up init.  Then he went about frightening everyone he met, for they all took him to be a Lion, men and beasts alike, and tookto their heels when they saw him coming. Elated by the success of his trick, he loudly brayed in triumph. The Foxheard him and recognized him at once for the Donkey he was and said to him,“Oh, my friend, it’s you, is it?  I, too,should have been afraid if I hadn’t heard your voice.”

A Donkeyfound a Lion’s skin and dressed himself up in it.

一头驴找到了一张狮子皮披在自己的身上。

skin:  人或野兽的皮。           dressup:  （将自己）穿衣打扮起来。

Then hewent about frightening every one he met,  

然后它到处走，吓唬每一个遇见它的。

go about: 四处走，到处走。   frighten: 惊吓，吓唬

for they all took him to be a Lion, men and beasts alike, 

(所有遇见它的) 无论是人或野兽，都把它当成狮子。

men：  人       beasts: 野兽

and took to their heels when they saw him coming.   

见到它（这头披着狮子皮的驴）都逃之夭夭。

take one’s heel:  溜之大吉，逃之夭夭。

Elated by the success of his trick, he loudly brayed intriumph. 

看到自己的骗术是如此成功，得意忘形之时，驴大叫一声。

elate:  得意的                         success:  成功             trick：招术，骗局

bray： 驴叫声                        triumph:  胜利，凯旋

The Fox heard him and recognized him at once for theDonkey he was and said to him,    狐狸听到叫声，立刻识别出那是头驴，然后说：

recognize:  认出，识别出                 at once:  立刻，立即

“Oh, my friend, it’s you, is it?  I, too, should have been afraid if I hadn’theard your voice.”

”Oh, 朋友，是你呀！如果我没有听到你的声音，我也会被吓坏了的！“

No disguisewill hide one’s true character

假面具掩盖不了真面目。
