THE LION AND THE WILD DONKEY

A lion and a Wild Donkey went out hunting together:the latter was to run down the prey by his superior speed, and the former wouldthen come up and dispatch it.  They metwith great success; and when it came to sharing the spoil, the Lion divided itall into three equal portions.

“I will takethe first,” said he, “because I am king of the beasts; I will also take thesecond

 Because, as your partner, I am entitled tohalf of what remains; and as for the third – well, unless you give it up to meand take off pretty quickly, the third, believe me, will make you feel verysorry for yourself!”

狮子和野驴的故事

一头狮子和一头野驴一起出去打猎。后者以狮子的速度飞跑，而前者则上来杀死猎物。它们合作的很成功。可是在分享猎物的时候，狮子将猎物分成等同的三份。然后说：“第一份是我的，因为我是万兽之王。第二份也是我的 – 因为作为合作伙伴，我理应享受剩下的二分之一。至于第三份吗，我看你还是放弃，让给我。不然的话，除非你跑得快，否则，你会后悔的（言外之意：我会把你也吃了的！）。
