小锐的回答 transcript:

1) Like many Chinese children who were cared for by their grandparents when they were growing up, my grandfather shouldered the responsibility of looking after me when my parents were busy working. He’s a family member I admired the most. Besides, he’s near and dear to my heart.

2) When I was still a child, he used to cook for us three meals per day, so my childhood was filled with soothing images of him making steamed buns and stir-frying different kinds of meat and vegetables. In my memory, he was extremely patient with the kids, kind-hearted and down to earth.

3) After I started going to college, he retired from his work and I got to know him better by spending my summer and winter vacation with him. Back then, he used to share with me the stories of him designing the Wuhan Yangtze Great Bridge with his colleagues. He was a successful engineer by the way. Even after retirement, he kept on studying his field of interest as well as literature, foreign languages and many other things. To me, he is an extremely disciplined and intelligent person who is a role model for many people who know him.

4) The reason why respect him so much is that he taught me the invaluable life lessons that to love is to give, to give the best of what I have to people around me and to devote my time and energy to family members so that they can immerse themselves in love and care. More importantly, he inspired me to lead a meaningful life by learning new things in every stage of life. Because of him, I always remind myself to grow my curiosity of and respect for the world around us, and never cease learning.
