China  is  the  world’s second  largest  economy, right  next  to  the  United States.  中国是世界的第二大经济体，仅次于美国。中国的民营企业，也有越来越多的大型跨国公司large  multi-nationals. 

说到汽车行业的中国公司，很多的美国人都知道，就是BYD比亚迪，a  name  that  Buffett owns  more  than  he  does  of  General Motors.  巴菲特买的比亚迪股票比他买的通用汽车还多。

苹果公司也在积极进军汽车领域Apple  is  actively  working on  car  tech，而电池则是重要的一个部分。Who  will  Apple  choose for  battery  supply? 苹果会选择哪家公司提供电池呢？来听一下这段音频，长39秒，讲解之后，let’s  see  3  words  for  success.

In  terms  of  just  batteries, CATL  is  really well-positioned,  BYD  has  just  as  great,  if  not  better, in  a  lot  of  ways.  What  CATL  does  not  have,  is  it  doesn't have  the  entire ecosystem,  and  that's the  thing  that  Apple  wants. 

Keep  in  mind,  BYD  is  the  only  Chinese automaker  that  has  factory  in  the  United States.  BYD  survived under  Trump  as  a  Chinese company,  selling  electric buses  and  other  products  in  the  United States,  and  actually flourished  during  that  time.  So  they  can  withstand  anything.

Well-positioned准备充分的、有优势的，一个相关的词组，in  a  position  to  do你觉得是什么意思呢，来听一下美剧《大西洋帝国》Boardwalk  Empire中的一句想一想：You’re  not  in  a  position to  bargain.  你没资格讨价还价。所以，in  a  position  to就是指处于某种地位，有资格、有能力做某事。

If  not  better这种if  not…做插入语的表达方式，在英语中很常见，表示if  not前面的内容是最起码、肯定有的，if  not后面的，是可能的。来听两个例句，第一句是领英LinkedIn  CEO  Jeff  Weiner说的一句话：It’s  also  equally important,  if  not  more  important, to  understand  what’s happening  to  the  people.  理解在这些人身上发生了什么是同等重要的，或许更重要一些。这里用的是if  not  more，再来听一句TED演讲中的一句话：I  found  this  to  be  ineffective for  most,  if  not  all,  of  my  female  patients.  我发现这对大多数，甚至全部的我的女性病人来说，都是没用的。

What  CATL  does  not  have,  is  it  doesn't have  the  entire  ecosystem,  and  that's the  thing  that  Apple  wants. 

宁德时代所缺少的，是它不拥有整个生态系统，而这是苹果公司想要有的。

这里的ecosystem生态系统，指的并不是the  natural ecosystem自然界的生态系统，而是指公司产品形成的一个系统，类似的还经常会说tech  ecosystem，比如这句：A  successful  tech  ecosystem  promotes diversity  and  improves equity  for  everyone.  一个良好的科技生态系统能够提升多样性，为每个人促进平等。

Survive  存活、幸存，之前在我们的节目中也出现过，来听一下这句话，注意一下survive的用法：She  survived the  sinking  of  the  legendary Titanic.  她在传奇巨轮泰坦尼克号沉没事故中幸存了下来。你有注意到吗，“她在沉船事故中幸存”英语直接用的是she  survived the  sinking.  相似的，还可以说survive  the  night活过这一晚；He  survived cancer.  他战胜了癌症。

和其它产品，在美国销售，而且在那段时间发展的很好。

Flourish  繁荣发展，注意英式发音是/'flʌrɪʃ/，美式是  /'flɝɪʃ/.  除了表示公司等繁荣发展，也可以用于说人，比如来听美剧The  Big  Bang  Theory中的一句：Do  you  suppose you  would  flourished more  in  a  reward-based  environment?  你认为在以奖励为导向的环境中，你会发展的更好吗？如果说人flourish就是指成功、情况好。

与flourish意思相近的一个词，也很常见，a  word  starting  with  p，你知道是哪个词吗？来听英国前首相Theresa  May说的一句：We  want  its  member  states to  prosper.  我们希望成员国家能繁荣发展。所以，flourish的近义词，就是prosper.

所以他们可以经受得住任何事情。

Withstand  经受、承受，经常会说can  withstand anything表示坚不可摧。类似的还会说withstand  the  cold经受住严寒；withstand  the  harsh  conditions经受恶劣的条件；withstand  the  pressure承受压力。

还有经常会说的“经受时间的考验”，你知道该怎么说吗？来听这句：Beethoven’s  masterpiece  has  withstood  the  test  of  time.  贝多芬的名作经受了时间的考验。
