Foreword: The Appearance of a Heart that Stands（1）

While writing this book, I often thought about the few years I trained in Korea. Sometimes what appeared in my memory is the spacious underground training studio, other times it would be me waking up with a start in the middle of the night, feeling at a loss.

The funny thing is, I thought about these not because the days were hard back then, but because after walking through these few years I realized that it was each one of those nights that has sustained the life I have right now.

There is a scene etched in my memory, the first time I stood on the debut stage, everyone saw how easily I laughed, how confidently I danced. But I knew at that time, my heart was full of the resistance that wanted to escape. The stage was so big, the applause was so loud, in the instant that my name rang out, in the moment that my legs stepped out there - in my heart, other than the excitement I displayed, my mind was swelling with questions: Did I make a mistake with my position earlier? Was my performance satisfactory? Later on I must not say the wrong thing, did I react half a beat too slow? Will we be acknowledged? Will our future be good?

I remember carefully covering up this feeling of being at a loss, placing myself in the midst of my teammates, and comforting myself, "It's a good thing we have many people!''

Sometimes what appeared in my memory is the spacious underground training studio,

有时候记忆里出现的是空旷的地下练习室

other times it would be me waking up with a start in the middle of the night, feeling at a loss.

有时候想起的是深夜突然惊醒后不知所措的自己…… 

> At a loss 亏本;不知所措;困惑;神思恍惚

 The funny thing is, I thought about these not because the days were hard back then,  

奇怪的是想起这些，不是因为那些日子辛苦

But because after walking through these few years I realized that it was each one of those nights that has sustained the life I have right now.

而是在走过这么几年之后，我会发现是那一个个的夜晚支撑着我现在的生活

There is a scene etched in my memory,

有一个烙印在脑海里的画面：

the first time I stood on the debut stage,

第一次站在出道的舞台上的时候

everyone saw how easily I laughed, how confidently I danced.  

所有人看见我笑得多轻松，舞跳得多么自信

But I knew at that time,my heart was full of the resistance that wanted to escape.

但我知道自己当时内心满满都是想要逃离的抗拒

 The stage was so big, the applause was so loud, 

舞台那么大，掌声那么响

in the instant that my name rang out, in the moment that my legs stepped out there -

当我的名字响起来的那一个刹那，当我的双腿迈上去的那一个瞬间

> Instant [ˈɪnstənt]  n.瞬间，顷刻；此刻 adj.立即的;迫切的；正在考虑的，目前的；即食的

 in my heart, other than the excitement I displayed, my mind was swelling with questions:

我内心深处在表面的兴奋之外，膨胀在脑子里的全部都是疑问句：

> Swell [swɛl] vt.& vi.膨胀；肿胀；增强；充满（激情）adj.极好的；了不起的；非常棒的

Did I make a mistake with my position earlier?

刚刚的走位有没有错？

Was my performance satisfactory?

我的表现及格了吗？

Later on I must not say the wrong thing, did I react half a beat too slow?

待会儿一定不要说错话，刚刚是不是反应慢了半拍？

> Later on [ˈleɪtə(r)ɑn] <口>以后；嗣后；他日 

Will we be acknowledged? Will our future be good?

我们会被认可吗？未来会好吗？

I remember carefully covering up this feeling of being at a loss, placing myself in the midst of my teammates,  

我记得自己小心地掩饰着这种不知所措，把自己放到队友堆里

> Cover up 覆盖，遮掩，掩饰

He says he did it, but he's covering up for a friend. 

他说事情是他干的，但实际上他是在包庇一个朋友。

and comforting myself, "It's a good thing we have many people!''

安慰自己：“还好我们人多！”
