【本章大意】

沃尔顿船长指挥一艘英国船舰在北冰洋进行科考。途中，一个身形巨大的男人意外出现。暴风雨后，他和他的船员救了一个差点被冻死的名为“维克托”的男人。

人物介绍

Captain Walton（沃尔顿船长）：北极科考队的船长。他在北冰洋进行科考的路上发现了本文的主人公维克托·弗兰肯斯坦。

Victor Frankenstein（维克托·弗兰肯斯坦）：故事的主人公，创造了“再生人”。因为“再生人”不断残害他的家人和朋友，他决心铲除“再生人”。

背景简介：探索

对于欧洲人来说，19世纪早期还是一个探索的年代，人们对世界是什么样子的只有一个大体概念。但是地球很大的一部分地域，包括澳大利亚、太平洋、非洲的内陆、北美和南美的大部分地区，还有极地地区，尚未被开发。没有人知道还有什么奇怪的事情正等着人类去发现。

In 1780 an English ship was sailing across the Arctic Sea.

Captain Walton and his crew were travelling towards the North Pole. They were on a voyage of scientific exploration.

The Arctic ice was all around them.

Many of the crew were afraid.

Suddenly a sailor shouted.

Look! Something is moving on the ice!

What is it?

1780年，一艘英国船舰正航行穿越北冰洋。

沃尔顿船长和他的船员们正向北极圈航行，他们正在进行一次科考旅行。

船的四周到处都是北冰洋的冰块。

很多船员都感到害怕。

My God! It's a sledge with dogs - and there's a man on it.

He's no ordinary man. He looks like a giant!

He's moving very fast. Look! He's going behind that mountain of ice.

Who is he? Where is he going in the middle of the Arctic?

That night there was a great storm.

The next morning.

We must be very careful. The storm has broken up the ice into pieces.

One of the sailors saw something in the sea.

Captain! Look at that block of ice. There's a man on it.

They pulled the man onto the ship.

He's nearly dead from the cold.

Is he the man we saw yesterday, Captain?

No, I don't think so.

当天晚上有一场暴风雨。

It was him! I must find him before he kills again. He is a monster!

The man was exhausted.

Take him down to my cabin. He can sleep there.
