74—stay

1.       Stay in

Meaning: Stay in means not go out.
e.g. It's raining outside. Let's stay in and watch a movie.

2.       Stay over

Meaning: Stay over means stay overnight.
e.g. If you think it's too late to drive home you can always stay over here.

3.       Stay up

Meaning: Stay up means not go to bed.
e.g. I like to stay up late on the weekend.

4.       Stay away from someone / something

Meaning: Stay away means avoid / not come.
e.g. Stay away from me if you have a cold. I don't want to catch it.

5.       Stay out

Meaning: Stay out means not go home.
e.g. Don't go home yet. Stay out with us until it gets dark.

1.       buy up 

Meaning:to buy all of something that you can, quickly.  

e.g. This is a great deal. I’m going to buy up all these frames. 

e.g. They’re buying up all the empty lots in Philadelphia to build apartments.

2.       buy out 

Meaning: to buy all of someone’s shares or stake in a company.  

e.g. I bought all her shares, so now I own the whole company.  

It can also be when a large company buys out all of the stock of a smaller company, taking ownership. Or if one company simply buys another company. 

e.g. Instagram was bought out by Facebook.

3.       buy somebody off

Meaning: you pay that person, you give him money, so that they would do something or not do something for you. You bribe them.  

e.g. They wanted to buy me off, but I’m not going to take their money. I’m going to report their illegal activity. In other words, they wanted to pay me to keep quiet.

4.       buy into something/buy it 

Meaning: you believe it. 

e.g. I bought into the idea that he was going to be a great president.  

e.g. I don’t buy it.

5.       Buy in 

Meaning: mean to invest. 

e.g. I think you should by in this company, I really think the stock is going to go up.

1. You can say that again. 我完全同意。

2. It's hard to say. 很难说。

3. I can't say for sure. 我不能肯定

4. It's/That’s easy for you to say! 你说的轻巧,站着说话不腰疼。
