TPO37 Task 6 2 Ways Photography Affected Painting

Sample Response:

With the invention of cameras, realistic images were recorded. Photography hence has had 2 major effects on painting. First, it was a tool to help painters paint realistically. The cameras could capture a fleeting moment and freeze it in time. For example, it captured the legs of a horse and it was used by the painter to paint a galloping horse. Second, it enabled the painters to paint in a conceptual way. Painters were able to change their style to a more abstract way, in order to separate them from the photographers. So the painters became more imaginative. For example, some of them didn’t depict the natural skin tones but used some dramatic colors like blue, green, or purple.
