Age play to escape worries
Heidi, 24, is a sales associate from Oregon. She is also a "little" part of a subculture of people who enjoy dressing up as adult babies for several hours a day. For Heidi, age play isn't sexual, and she uses dressing up as a 1- to 3-year-old to escape her worries in the real world.
She'll usually spend an hour or so a day doing baby play, when she'll wear her hair in pigtails and dress up in pink, childlike outfits, wear a nappy (which she doesn't use in place of the toilet), play with toys, and babble and move around as a child would. She's been open with her friends and boyfriend about her lifestyle choice. Her boyfriend is understanding.
How ripe should bananas be?
An online debate about the perfect level of banana ripeness proves there are a lot of different opinions about the best time to eat the yellow tropical fruit. A new snap that has gone viral on Instagram shared by the account fitness meals shows a bunch of bananas all at different levels of ripeness.
They are all labeled from numbers one through 15, with one being the most under-ripe, to 15 being the most over-ripe. The majority of banana fans said they would pick numbers 8 through 10 from the bunch. These fruit had no green under-ripe parts, with number 10 having a few brown speckles on the skin also.
Some opted for a more under-ripe 6 or 7 banana, while some said they would pick a very brown and speckled 11. Harley Street nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert reveals that bananas are an excellent source of potassium and other nutrients no matter how ripe they are. However she says for the average person, a more ripe banana may be easier to digest.
Lack of Vitamin D increases miscarriage risk
Women not receiving enough vitamin D take longer to get pregnant and may even increase their risk of having a miscarriage, a study has found. Researchers analyzed levels of the essential nutrient in the blood, before pregnancy and eight weeks after, of 1,200 women who had experienced a previous pregnancy loss and were hoping to conceive again.
Those whose vitamin D levels were in line with recommended levels prior to conception were 15% more likely to have a live birth, and risk of miscarriage decreased as levels of the vitamin rose. The findings add to earlier studies which had suggested higher levels of vitamin D were beneficial in women undergoing in vitro fertilization.
In fact, vitamin D is also essential for the human body to absorb calcium and other minerals from the food and drinks we consume. Deficiencies can cause bone weakness and deformities, particularly in children who are growing rapidly where it can lead to rickets.
Blue light isn't harmful
Many of us spend our days staring into bright screens. Light can cause damage to eyes under certain conditions, and some studies indicate that the most harmful part of the visible spectrum is blue light, which electronic devices emit to stay visible under bright conditions.
Because of that, eyewear companies and screen-protector manufacturers have started to market and sell devices designed to protect vision by blocking blue light. "There's no evidence that blue light may be causing any irreversible damage," Dr Rahul Khurana, clinical spokesman for the American Academy of Ophthalmologists.
But if blue light isn't harmful, then why are we constantly rubbing our eyes when we're looking at our screens? The answer is eyestrain: More than 60% of people experience problems associated with digital eyestrain. Our eyes are so strained because most of us blink less when we stare at our digital devices.
