All That at Present Is Happiness

幸福就是现在

Once upon a time, a rich man and a poor man talked about what happiness was.

从前,一个富人和一个穷人谈论什么是幸福。

The poor man said, “All that at present is happiness.”

穷人说：“幸福就是现在。”

Observing the poor man's shabby cottage and clothes, the rich man sneered, “How can this be called happiness?

富人望着穷人的茅舍和破旧的衣着，轻蔑地说：“这怎么能叫幸福呢？

My happiness is a luxurious house with a hundred rooms and a thousand servants!”

我的幸福可是百间豪宅、千名奴仆啊！”

One night, a big fire burnt down the rich man’s hundred-room house into pieces, and his servants each went his own way.

一天晚上，一场大火把富人的百间豪宅烧得片瓦不留，奴仆们各奔东西。

The rich man became a beggar overnight.

一夜之间，富人沦为了乞丐。

One day, it was extremely hot. He, a beggar now, came to ask for some water to drink when he passed by the poor man’s cottage.

一天，酷暑难熬，这乞丐路过穷人的茅舍，想讨口水喝。

The poor man brought him a big bowl of cool and fresh water, asking, “What do you think happiness is now?”

穷人端来一大碗清凉的水，问他：“你现在认为什么是幸福。”

The beggar said anxiously, “Happiness is the bowl of water in your hands now.”

乞丐眼巴巴地说：“幸福就是此时此刻你手中的这碗水。”

Indeed, nothing is ever perfect in the world. 

世上本就无十全十美之事。

Happiness is a contented mind which cherishes the present and lives in the moment. Happiness is essentially all that at present.

幸福是珍惜现有，享受当下的一种知足心态，幸福就是现在。
