New English slang words are getting popular
英文网络用语新词不断,你跟上节奏了吗?
If someone says that you have “rizz”, you probably don’t know what they mean or how to feel about it. Well, “rizz” is a new slang word with a happy meaning!
Generation Alpha (born after 2010) is changing the English language with new slang words, such as “Ohio”, meaning strange, and “rizz” meaning charisma (个人魅力). Gen Alpha’s slang is going far and quickly through platforms like TikTok.
Although these slang words are very popular with Gen Alpha, many parents don’t know what their kids are saying. Some people believe the slang words don’t make sense and can bring misunderstandings.
Harvard linguist Adam Aleksic said that in history, people have always disliked young people “ruining” language with new slang. However, slang helps Gen Alpha feel like they are a part of something. They build their own group and make themselves different from others by using new slang, reported China Daily.
