The Tickets
I had lost my wallet. It had money in it, but far more importantly, it had two tickets to a World Cup soccer game!
My aunt gave me these as a special present. She worked for the organizers and she got the tickets as a special gift. What was I going to say to my aunt?
I searched for weeks... and nothing.
Months went by and I got a new wallet, but I didn't have the heart to tell my aunt that I had lost the tickets. She was very excited. “Only two months left to the World Cup!" she would say.
It was terrible.
With less than a week until the World Cup was to start, I realized it was time for me to confess to my aunt.
I went over to her place and we sat down. I guess she could see that I was upset. “Aunt Kathy, there's something I need to tell you..." She interrupted me. “Good, but before you do, I was wondering if you know anybody else who might want some tickets to the big game? I have two more."
"This solves my problem!" I thought. As scared as I was, I didn't tell the truth. “Sure," I said. "I can find someone to give them to." I took them, but as my hand touched them and I saw my aunt's smiling face, I could not lie any longer.
"Aunt Kathy, I lost the tickets," I confessed. She looked at me with an understanding smile and said, “I know. Your mother told me. It's all right. I know how bad you felt about it. It was an accident. It could happen to anyone."
I could not believe that my aunt was so good to me. She found two more tickets and pretended not to know that I had lost the first tickets.
"Now you can still take a friend to the World Cup! Make sure it's your best friend!" she laughed. I looked at my favourite aunt and said, “It is. I'm taking you."
